as someone once told me, even low scores in cricket can be extremely difficult scores to chase, because it isn't about the panic, but about getting ahead of yourself that can do you in.

Would've loved to hear Ian Chappel's views on this Botham.

I doubt it would be very positive...

Allan Border's memory must be fading in his old age. Australia only led by 69 runs on the first innings. By the time England tied the scores, they were only 2 wickets down, not 7. So it was the remaining 8 wickets that scored the extra 150 runs, not 3 as Border said.

It was a good few years ago now!! I know what you mean though. Maybe he’s trying to lessen the pain of the defeat, when Australia were still the favourites to win??

Yep, and they only gave Hogg 10 overs. I thought was very underrated in that series but it showed the limitations of a 4 man attack. They should have included Graham Beard for something vaguely different or even a leggie just to chuck down something different. It took Hughes long enough at Leeds to realise plan A wasn't working.

There's a reason it's called botham's ashes.

Getting that money from the 500-1 bet must've been the added gut wrench.

To think Botham didn't want to bowl in that final afternoon at Edgbaston he suggested to Brearley to bowl Willey from the City End

Gower was wrong, although it was meant to be the best surface in England, that particular pitch was not easy.
