A perfect song in every way. Not everyone who says they owe a debt to Bowie can do it with such style. And chord changes.

This is my favourite of all your songs.... beautiful haunting capture of a era, a mood and a reconciliation of love almost lost. Played this continually when it first came out and now I have rediscovered it think I will again...

Always reminds me of how I lived when I was in my twenties back in the 70s. I always felt like I was in a Robert Crumb cartoon. Wonderful memories!

Saw him way back when, still one of the best gigs I've been to. Got this album on vinyl and will never part with it.

Tom, how did the songwriting partnership here with Peter Gabriel come about?

He wrote it around a drum pattern from a machine loaned by Peter so only thought it fit to give credit.

Christ, I'd remembered this as good; but nowhere near as good as it really is! I have never, and will never, throw down my coat, butter some toast have some coffee and a cigarette in the manner described. Shit! My life has been, is, and shall ever be a wasted one. I limped from one non event to another on a crutch of cliché. One day I hope I can end it by my own hand, then - and only then - will victory be mine.
