When I 24 I had a half decent Triumph Spitfire and would drive to work in the traffic in Birmingham blasting this on the radio in the morning thinking I was king of the road in the morning sun..... it could have been written for me back then.....I am now this old geezer trying to learn to play it on a bass guitar trying to relive that feeling..... thanks Tom

Straight from the horse's mouth! Superb. Danny Kustow's wailing guitar solo on the original of this blew my 14 year old mind back in 1978! Punk Rock had some kick ass guitarists lurking in the background!

Bloody brilliant!! I remember growing up with this song in the 70's, all of us singing along to it on the school bus. Watching Tom not only play it here acoustically but also explain how he wrote it has put SUCH a smile on my face.

Great song. Brings me right back to the time I lived in London in 1977 and I’d listen to Roger Scott’s show on Capital Radio everyday to hear where it was in the charts. I have several of Tom’s LPs and I have songs of his on my iPod, too. I got to see the TRB perform once here in NYC. Great to see Tom in this video. Be well, Tom!!

Love TRB still and always. I was lucky enough to meet Danny Kustow in may 1987. As he was a friend of Ali McMordie's bassist from Stiff Little Fingers , who at that time was helping out on bass in a band i played for. Danny came to rehearsals at John Henrys in Camden. Ali told him how much of an influence he was to me on guitar. We sat together goin over some TRB tracks , he showed me the D chord i could never find in Up Against The Wall , and hittin C note on the E chord in Too Good To Be True. Ill never forget as long as i live. Thank you Danny. And thank you Tom for your great songs passion and honesty. Much love mate

I can't believe to read this as the first comment here because my father passed away year and a half ago. He was a musician too during the Croatian new wave (1982.-1985.) and he loved this song and he passed that love on to me. I hope I'll have a kid of my own soon to pass the appreciation for all the great songs that were made during the golden years of rock 'n' roll!

This song embodies everything 70's rock was about. I had never heard of the Tom Robinson Band but then 2-4-6-8 Motorway came on and it sounded like all my favorite songs turned into one. And props to the guitarist for turning this simple blues riff into the catchy chord progression it became!

I’ve always thought a Fairlane Cruiser was a Ford Fairlane cruising the highway. Made perfect sense to me. This was the song that reminds me of my first big road trip with my old school mates as it was on often the radio while we were driving. Great memories and and great driving song. What a great bloke Tom is to explain the songs’ construction.

Tom, over here in the US we had a Ford Fairlane, so that meaningless lyric had an unintended connotation. Of course, at the time I had to ask around to find out what the heck a Ford Cortina was. Well, in any case, 15-year-old me heard Power In The Darkness on college radio in Philadelphia, and here we are -- a fan of yours for life!

Brilliant concert that night and Tom R was a real friendly guy! Respect T R...

It had great meaning to it really. Sometimes you find peace by driving away from the things that make you sad. Just you, the road, the white lines and the other lonely souls, all going somewhere. Some want to be home, others want to be away.

I'm gonna play this song at a gig here in Sweden in May. I've just been playing it with open chords, and I don't know if it's worth it to rehearse the proper inversions as you played here, because it's so soon and there's already so much energy the way I play it, but I really appreciate the tip on using the fourth fret on the D string when playing the A in the intro. Sounds a lot better than going from full A to full D and back.

Still not sure of the message back then but he is also a bloody hell of a musician as well. And finally he’s aged incredibly well. Respect....
