@NassiveMutts3 жыл бұрын
@@JAKENMK The tone can be heard by simply strumming the guitar openly. That would be the guitars tone, not the musician. I know what you are saying as tone can be effected as for how the musician uses his or her touch on the instrument, A softer touch will bring out a softer tone etc. These are two different things when one talks about the tone of the instrument vs the tone a musician can bring out of an instrument.

Mike - this is the first time I've come across your videos. Thank you for dedicating your time and service to our veterans. I was not able to serve myself, but many in my family have (including my father and my son, who were/are both USAF/ANG). Music has been a life-line for many in my family, so I have a great appreciation what you're doing here. I gotta tell ya - you've got an infections "can do" attitude about you. I've been happily banging out open chords in a standard tuning for well over a decade now, and I've always thought that I didn't want to bother with finger picking riffs or messing around with non-standard tunings, but within 4-5 minutes after starting the video, I had paused it and went to grab my guitar. I've dropped the two strings and started (albeit very awkwardly) fumbling through these couple riffs and chord variations. I love it - now hopefully I can stick with it!! I play a lot of kids songs in Dmaj (standard tuning) so I'm curious about the possibility of making those songs work in this alternate "double-drop" tuning. Thank you, for the encouragement and inspiration!

Wow! Thanks for the incredibly kind feedback, Steve. It warms my heart. There are many videos on my channel you might find helpful. You are the type of guitarist I am trying to appeal to. I try to use alternate tunings and simplified chord structures to make songs more playable for vets and anyone else that loves playing music. Thanks for taking the time to provide such gracious feedback!

Been playing since 1963, and drop D since 1965 (which I discovered by accident) but still found some useful things in this video. That's a fine sounding Breedlove by the way. That Double Drop D technique would be perfect for a crew chief I knew who was left with three fingers after a round cooked off while changing the barrel of an overheated M60.

Great job, Brother. Another chord I've used in double-drop D (fer about 50 years) is the two finger G chord-Ring Finger/Little Finger on fret 5 of the 5th and 6th strings - which can easily be moved up to make the A on fret 7 too. That's the way Dan Tyminski plays the G in a video I found "Dan Tyminski & Ron Block - I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow" (Tyminski adds 1st finger on 3rd fret of 1st string). For our friend below, this tuning sounds Awesome on a 12-string!

Thanks Chet, and good call on the alternative approach to the G!
@chetdudeweb7073 жыл бұрын
@@campfire_guitar_lessons Another useful appliance I use is a cut Kyser capo - I've cut away the rubber for the outer two strings and with a regular capo set 2 frets lower I can easily setup double drop D in every key from E (cut capo at 2nd fret) through G (regular capo at 5th fret and cut capo at 7th) by playing "D" forms (D-G-A) and get a full sound on the 5th chord while playing "G" forms (G-C-D) to get the keys of A through D.
@campfire_guitar_lessons3 жыл бұрын
@@chetdudeweb707 you must clairvoyant CWS! My next lesson is focused on using a clamp type capo to achieve open E tuning by capoing on strings 1 through 5, and using D, G, and A shapes. A future lesson beyond that will move the capo to fret 4 and use a C shape. This is one of my favorite techniques to add spice to the repertoire.
@chetdudeweb7073 жыл бұрын
@@campfire_guitar_lessons I have to admit that I started using cut capo after finding one in lying around in the green room while warming up to play the Freight and Salvage Coffee House after David Wilcox had played there. He left it so I have to credit him with the idea. I promise that if I ever run into David, I'll return HIS to him. I have a couple of my own now in addition to his.
@campfire_guitar_lessons3 жыл бұрын
@@chetdudeweb707 I use Shubb’s 5 string and 3 string capos. I love David Wilcox. I used one of his crazy tunings on one of my original compositions. It is open G, but with string 6 tuned down to B, and using a 5 string capo on the 4th fret. Sounds crazy, but creates an amazing palette for creativity.
