Join us on a tour of Grandma Prisbrey's Bottle Village in Simi Valley California. Grandma (Tressa) Prisbrey started to build this folk art masterpiece when she was in her sixties. Some called it junk. Many appreciate it as a wonder of art. Some of the dolls even made it on the cover of a recording by “Wall of Voodoo.” From her pencil art beginnings, to her magnificent Round House, see what still remains of this unique construction. Another adventure from “The Places Where We Go”
This California Historical Landmark is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site is located at 4595 Cochran Street, Simi Valley, California.

Guys that was amazing and great that it's being preserved. She was an early recycler and had so much fun making something out of nothing ! I've never seen anything like this before and she was 60 when she started it , wow . I loved the ground which, like you said , is art but also history . Those doll / flower heads were creepy though 😳 So funny that she took the wheels off her trailer so they couldn't move around haha. Loved the bottle wall, I have seen someone do that in an eco home build and its a great idea. Massive collection of pencils at 17,000 though whoh ! What a woman, I think you said she went to work assembling parts for Boeing after leaving here ? I think that's for planes as well as playing piano in a bar ? What an inspirational woman. And so good that it's now in the register of historic places and I loved her quote about making something out of nothing. Loved this so much , thanks again for the very informative tour :) ~ Anna 👍

It's one of only a few such bottle houses we've ever encountered. Another was in the Nevada desert nearby Death Valley National Park. It is a credit to the preservation committee that they have been able to stop any destruction of the property. I used to drive my bicycle past Grandma Prisbrey's property when on my way to high school so many years ago. I wish I had taken the time then to meet her. Thanks so much for watching Anna!

Thanks for watching this one Dave. It's a bit of a gem in Simi Valley with limited options to get on the property so we were glad to have been able to tour the place.
