Super John - since this an old video, don’t know if you are still out there or will see this or not - hope so. Would like to have seen the completed product. Is there ever any shrinkage so that the threads may not line up (screw on properly)? Would this be a secure (watertight) closure? I’m assuming you are making these to use with plastic screw caps or plastic pump top assemblies like you see in the store on bottles of lotion, soap, etc. Does anyone ever make clay caps instead of having to use plastic? In terms of shrinkage - any special clay you use that wouldn’t shrink I went to Axners - couldn’t find any molds for making the threaded bottle collar (that the plastic cap would thread onto) like you were showing. I realize this was a 2011 video - maybe they don’t carry this mold anymore or I looked in the wrong area. If we couldn’t find a mold or had a different size or type of threads - how would you measure to get the threads to match - whether small diameter, or wide mouth canning jar size or larger. I’m thinking of these large jars that my grandparents use to get salt herrings in from the store - short squatty jar with a really wide mouth metal cap. I have used those left old jars for many purposes but have wished they were clay and could be decorated. I think I can find the plastic tops but need to be able to match threads in the clay to go with the plastic cap without a mold. However, since it is so much easier to use a mold - how would we make different size molds for different size plastic caps to work. I have seen a lot of different ways to make molds but they weren’t threaded to match to caps. Thanks - I can’t wait to go back and watch other videos. PS I did briefly look to see if any of your older videos answered the above, but didn’t see anything. If done, just tell me the link so you don’t have to repeat - know you are busy. I did see your comment below: “The threaded collar is for the soap pump inserts. I just have a plastic cap that works. Will try to find out where I got it from.”; but wasn’t sure what you were talking about - did I miss something? Also, couldn’t find anything about the type of slip you were using to join pieces. I did ceramics years ago (as in 30-40) but didn’t remember any type of slip with the name of what you said and couldn’t find anything that sounded like the word you mentioned on Axner’s site either. Any help? Thanks bunches and God Bless.

Well, after my 300 plates you assigned me to make, I was anticipating a large assignment. Whew, not another night of making plates! LOL. JK. I like how simple it looks. I will have to try it. Thanks, Prof!

Now you have me wondering if there's a way to make the threaded mold so I could make a bunch of these as water bottles.

I don't know if the best way. Sorry.

After thinking about it, I believe it would be less problematic to make a bottle for a stopper, like this. www.battlemerchant.com/images/product_images/popup_images/1913041200b.jpg

Thanks Colin. I went to www.mitchellspainceramics.com/ and see slip-cast threaded bottles. I guess this is a good way to make everything consistent in size and shape.

There is an image of him casting the screw shape. and on another image the interior screw shape. It is a bottle with a white cone coming out. So then when it drys a bit he unscrews it out...
