Dang...now I have to wait until Thursday to buy the winner, unless it's EH Taylor which is the only one I have. Very surprising and cool that 2 of the finalists are low cost and easily available too: Old Grand Dad and Early Times. Goes to show that some great bourbons are not high $. Thanks again guys. I kind of agree with Trenton on the McKenna. I get cotton candy, too, at least on the nose. It is a solid pour and very enjoyable. I've honestly never tried Early Times, but I'm intrigued by your reviews, for sure!

Hey I'm new to whiskey and have a dumb question for you. When you say a whiskey is oaky, does that mean your tasting/smelling wood? Or does oak have its own individual note? Love your channel btw thanks!

No stupid questions here. Oaky for me can be on the nose or palate. Oak can also be good or bad. Some oak notes are nice and sweet lending to a well balanced whiskey. Other oak notes can be bitter or harsh. Some older bourbons the oak can be way to much at times.

@@slbdrinks great location for the visit. Old town Louisville is a really nice place with a couple of tasting locations and distilleries. IF you have the time just about 25 miles away in Radcliff you will find two things of interest; Boundary Oak distillery AND, more importantly, the Kentucky September 11th Memorial. The latter is located in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central via GPS. If you have the time. ENJOY Louisville guys!!!

I know people are already trying to sus out the difference between the BF vs Sazerac Early Times, but this is going to be the stuff that BF distilled and laid down before it got sold off. Unless there has been some change to the blending process, I've read that the juice should be the same for at least the next 4 years before we start seeing what Sazerac distilled and laid down finally come to market. Somebody tell me I'm wrong. I'm no expert on this. It's just what made sense to me.

Sazerac bought this (and other brands) in 2020, as well as stocks. So there will be some Brown Foreman stuff for another year or so (who knows what effect the negotiations had on production decisions). But, the BLENDING of barrels is still an art, and that isn't something Sazerac could buy (unless they bought the master distiller & tasters). And, flavor drift can happen even under the same producer. Just like the same ingredients and same recipe can yield different results with two different chefs. As long as the B-F DSP number is on the BiB label, should be their juice. I’d expect in a few years the 354 will drop off the label and it will only list Barton or BT.

I dont think its actually saz juice yet in the early times bottle. Sazerac purchased and took over on brown formans inventory of early times not that long ago. It might still be a little bit before Sazerac finishes bottling and distributing the inventory originally barreled by brown forman.

The Brown-Foreman also has a smooth bottle neck base (above the label). The Sazerac bottle has half circles.

Are you sure the actual distillate is different? I just bought a bottle that still lists DSP KY354 on the label, that’s still B-F juice even if it’s owned and bottled by Sazerac. Saz bought stocks with the label, I have yet to see a bottle with only Sazerac DSPs listed.

Early Times is $21.95 / liter in my area and it is my favorite. I buy it because it is very very good not because it is very very inexpensive. But at that price when I see it I always grab at least two bottles.

I'm in rural central Wisconsin abd called a nearby (30 mi.) liquor store which carries a surprising assortment of bourbons. The owner's liquor distributor happened to be there and explained Early Times Bonded is being allocated and he had no idea if or when he'll get some. Real bummer, really want to try it.

H.Mc. virtually non existent in my market. After it's San Fran. spirits competition win I believe the price skyrocketed as well. Same can be said about E.Times bib ... in the snipe hunt along with Mcken bib. Rare pennies the two of 'em. I have a rule. Don't chase women & and don't chase after booze either. Steadfast.
