*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

Hey Pk I was hoping to pick your brain about bay fishing. I have a 10 foot achilles inflatable dinghy with a 5hp outboard What would you personally consider to be safe conditions for bay fishing? I am talking as far as weather, swell, wind speed, ect. I have done a lot of research and there are a lot of opinions out there, but I know you are more cautious than most fishermen out there. You are one of the few people I know have that has gone bay fishing in an inflatable as well.
@oregonlife7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I started off with an inflatable Sevylor that we took all over, from small rivers like the Long Tom to the Bay. I've gotten a lot of miles out of that inflatable. One thing I would do different if I were to start over is get a gas motor like your 5 HP, because it will save a lot on travel time. You will also be able to motor against the tide better, and the tide in bays are pretty vicious sometimes. We weren't too concern with swells and/or rain - we fished in any weather. The big factor is wind and we always never go out if it's 10 mph or more. We fished in big swells and felt safe, usually the swells that come in where we fish in Charleston tend to be slow rolling so we'd go right over it. But wind will make the water choppy really fast and that's too uncomfortable. So, if 10 mph or more stay home (it tends to increase more as the day progress). Also for inflatables, just be careful about your hooks because they might puncture your raft. Good luck & be safe!

Where are you putting in on the Long Tom? Tried to look for a spot the other day but struck out.

nice reel, great spot, is this inside a breaker bay? I fish Half Moon Bay, but not as often as I'd like. we've never fished our breaker area & never seen anyone fish it. once out of it we have great fishing grounds, Salmon, Lings,Chinas,Reds, blacks, blues, Coppers, lotta Canaries, but still off limits on those.Quite a few Sea Bass last year. good crabbing until the Demonic Acids hit. did a couple of Charter boat fishing to break it up. getting expensive. seems like you guys like the Blacks more than anything else.

I’ve always loved the look and feel of Daiwa spinning reels and their smooth drags, but the line rollers are always a bust for me, no matter if I use mono or braid they never spin and do their job and I end up with line twist or my braid just rubs the gold coloring off, no matter how many times I take the assembly apart and re-oil them, a shame really cuz they feel pretty good, but at least I love my Shimano feels so I’m not completely out of Luck
@JiggingMaster7 жыл бұрын
So recently, I decided to get back into fishing. My goal is to buy a rod/reel combo that can be used for all purpose (freshwater/saltwater, surf fishing, inshore/offshore, charter/private, yellow fin tuna/dolphinfish, etc). With that being said, I did some extensive research and decided I want to get the Daiwa BG reel. But, I can't decide if I want a 4000, 4500, or 5000. Any recommendation on which model to get, and also which rod to get as well?

Well now looking it up online it contradicts the paper back version, so who knows what the regulations are
@younggunz207 жыл бұрын
The paper regs are almost useless. Especially with fishing, clamming, etc., the fish and wildlife agencies are using 'adaptive management,' meaning they change the regulations based on observation, test netting, catch rates, run size, population estimates, and a wide array of factors. Definitely save the ODFW 'regulation updates' tab and check it frequently when fishing.
