As we know from the Zelda memory, Link is acutely aware of his position as Zelda's chosen protector, so he deliberately doesn't talk much or show emotions, as he's afraid of ruining his image. When they first meet, Rivali is taken aback by Link's refusal to react to him (or anyone/anything else for that matter), so he deliberately keeps coaxing him to get any response out of him at all. All he really wants is for Link acknowledging him, but he never really managed to break through Link's stoic facade. Keep in mind though that that is the japanese version of Rivali. In the English version he's portrayed as far more arrogant and you probably won't get to see that side of him.

I just didn’t realize that the Japanese diary notes were drastically different than the default English notes. If that’s the case, then I’m super excited to replay the entire game on Japanese. Revali is rather interesting as he is the only champion who doesn't have a lineage. Mipha, Daruk and Urbosa are decendants of sages. Revali is just some guy who worked hard.

Lineage or not, he's the only champion who didn't really have anything. Mipha; Zora princess, beloved by her still living people and family. Has a statue. Urbosa; Chieftain whose helm is apparently kept as a relic in her tribe. Daruk; Mightiest of the Goron forces and has a bloody statue in his honour. Zelda; Princess of Hyrule, possessed sealing powers through her bloodline. Link; Chosen by the goddesses, only one to weird the sword of evil's bane. Revali; A Rito soldier who has exceptional talent with a bow. No notable lineage, no grand title, no statue, no inherited powers. Just an archery range he asked for.

He's not an asshat for the sake of being an asshat. All the other chosen Champions are royalty. He has a chip on his shoulder because he's the only commoner and then another one (Link) shows up to steal his thunder and DOES steal it by being chosen by the Master Sword. Revali feels he has more to prove by being the most 'normal' of the Champions and Link.

I am sorry, but Revali is my favorite zelda character. He is just misunderstood, unsecured about his status, got a silent treatment from link (to be fair, link was also burden with a lot) and wanted his efforts to be acknowledged, he worked the hardest out of all the champions (even more than link before the calamity) on his skill, unlike most of the champions who were blessed with their powers. Daruk got his protection from blood birth, through lineg of goran heros. Mipha was born with her healing powers, and she is a princess. And i refuses to believe the Urbosa got her thunder ability through training, what kind of training give you commend over lighting? I call BS. Zelda powers came from a Godess, its true she struggled to awaken it because of a mental block, but she still have the power. As for our hero link, he was born into a family of knights, and he was trained from the moment he was able to hold a blade, and was capable of defeating a full grown soldiers when he was only 7-8 years old, with the ability to slow down time by increasing his reaction time speed, wich is broken if you ask me. But here we have Revali, a common birth Rito, who honed his skills in secert, to keep the faced of the unbeatable archer and an idol for the Rito kids to inspire them to be greater. Then why else he asked that his training ground to be built away from the Rito village? Is it for pride? No, but to make sure that know one see how unsecured he can be about himself and his ability and show up as pathetic to the kids who idolize him, and if you want the best prof for everything i said, go watch the video about Revali and how he deserves better. Wow, i am truly in love with this character (no Yaoi in here, just as an awesome character)❤
