To all my kayak owners, I'm looking for some tips & advice for a new kayak owner. What kind of accessories have you added to your kayak and what do you love/hate about your kayak?

i installed steering cables and a foot pedal power switch on my frontier. and a bullnose rudder on the trolling motor.

Might not need it as much with a trolling anchor but for me some kind of anchoring system is a must. I want to be able to hold position to thoroughly cast to over and over again a "fishy" area.

I built a pulley system for my trolling motor and used a u-joint extender. Makes it super easy to raise if you get in shallow, or just want the motor up and out of the way. The u-joint extender was really helpful for me because I built a crate for the back of my nucanoe with vertical rod holders and just a straight extension would've made it hard to change directions without knocking into my rods

Yeah Frank I use my anchor a lot on my Nucanoe Pursuit. Same thing; I use an anchor, running rope through the transom hole and tie it off with a cleat. I used to use a dumbbell weight but that brought up a ton of weeds. I switched to a section of heavy weight chain folded in half and tied off to the middle and that has worked with a lot less weeds.

I have an older F12 and got it with a ton of accessories. I don't have a motor but paid up for the carbon fiber paddle. I originally had a lot of accessories but ended up simplifying the kayak quite a bit. My main accessories are a basic crate with rod holders, anchor trolley, and a dog leash mod for the anchor line. I have a Helix 7 G2 SI but rarely use it since I mostly fish skinny water.

Man, I love your setup! As a bigger guy, I think this might be exactly what I want to get out on the lakes around here: super stable and can be customized really easily, also looks pretty portable for its size. I like how in the video you show yourself picking it up and decking it out, must feel like a kid on christmas. Let me know how you liked it over the year if you see this.

I have the same boat. With the trolling motor, it is so much fun to drive it and to fish in it is a total different experience than fishing from the bank. Hope you enjoy it as I do

Have had my frontier 10 since 2013, have had a good run with it but sold it and now bin using the flint this year, what a great yak easy to handle both in and out of the water. I find i enjoy the flint even more by taking less stuff.

DJ, i have used my NuCanoe Frontier 12 for 3+ years. I love the fact that i can use my trolling motor(Minn Kota 30# thrust), can put 2 comfortable seats in, can take my 95# chocolate lab fishing or hunting. He loves it too. Likes it when it is just him and me, gets a little grumpy when the 2 seats are in! My dog can jump in and out of the boat without rocking the boat much at all. The stability is awesome. I like using my SUP paddle in standing to move around as well as sitting and using the Kayak paddle. With both seats in and located more in the stern and bow, we can also use canoe paddles well. I don't like 2 aspects of the boat: Loading it was a pain until i got the same set up as your video showed. The Yakima retractable bar hugely helped doing one person on and off my Honda Pilot. Moving the boat to the water with the rear mounted wheels is ok when the boat isn't loaded or don't have to go very far but on rough ground or farther distances it doesn't take any weight off the guy( me) hauling it from the front. I looked and looked for a better carrier because i do go farther distances and will go on rougher ground . Just ordered an All Terrain Center Cart from Seattle Sports. We will see how this works but in theory i should be able to get the Nucanoe centered up and take huge amounts of weight off. Thanks for the video!

Welcome to the club. I bought my first shotgun from Green Top when they were just a little store off of Rte 1.

The stability and 360 swivel seat was the reason I bought it!

Nice and congrats! Love the Nucanoe... still on my radar after owning Hobie PA 12 and Kaku Voodoo. I've car-topped both too, so my tip to you is to please use front and back tied downs for safety. Good luck DJ!

Keep the vids coming! Think the Frontier 12 is a great kayak, especially if you're going to use it with a trolling motor and/or as a tandem. I subbed you and hoping to see more of your new yak on the water!

Sweet yak. Really like the setup.

You have the exact setup I want to do. I have an outback but I am looking for something easier (lighter) to do small local lakes. What kind of speeds can you run with the motor? How many lb thrust?

Nucanoe Frontier is an awesome kayak. I love the stability and the clean deck. I own 3 kayaks but my work horse is Hobie Revolution. I love the pedal (mirage) drive and the speed. Rigging up a kayak is a personal preference. You have to try different thing and find what works for you. I hope to see you slay a ton of fish on that yak. 👍😀👍

Not sure yet. I've heard you have to register it with canoes that have trolling motors, but I don't see anything on the VDGIF site about kayaks. I might have to call and ask.
@Ilogrich6 жыл бұрын
Double check just in case. I know in MD if it's powered by a motor it has to be registered.
