The clock jumps from 3:39 to 3:28 when it cuts to the new camera, so I think we can assume he had a good start in those 11 seconds.

But I agree with you, its likely just not shown and a matter or editing that makes it look like a false start. Then again, with Colin, they could call him off and he would just come back out and climb it, get called back again, and climb it a 3rd time like in meiringen :)

what's the purpose of the "zone" indicator?

If you get to the zone and use it (like for making the next move or even just to reajust) you are rewarded an amount of points, so that if you don't finish the boulder but put a great effort in it you are still rewarded for doing the half :) BUT I don't remember the amount of points. If you top it's 25, if you get to the zone it's no the exact half
