As a serious musician I know I should love this. But the political views of Wagner leave me cold

Wagner is dead. He doesn’t care about politics anymore (and that’s assuming he ever really did).

I get that, but as a Gesammtkunstwerk, it’s undeniably universal in terms of common human themes. It’s also hard to situation Wagner operas in situations that happened later. Sure, the Nazis liked Wagner’s music……so what. I like Hugo Boss. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being reflective, but it seems like overreaching.
