Boulle Cabinet Restoration, Part 2

Stage 2 of a Boulle cabinet restoration job. Starting to remove the loose or lifting brass inlay & removal of unwanted modern adhesives and contaminates.

This isn’t how to. restore Boulle. Tortoise shell doesn’t respond well to high temperatures, so the heat gun is damaging the piece. I routinely repair Boulle cabinetry, and would never, ever, think of using a dremel to hack away at anything! This fellow has very badly botched a very easy/rudimentary repair with his ham fisted ways. There will be no third video, as it would only showcase just how poorly this bonheur was repaired.

Hi, can you please say what proportions are you using of the carnauba wax and beeswax, so you can mix it with paint and use to fill gaps. I tried many diffrent proportions, but I cannot get it right as it is either too soft, too brittle or changes the collour of added paint after drying and forming pinkish skin on the top. After trying for few days, I still cannot get this right and I serched the interner, but there is nothing about this.

What type of glue was used to go to the brass down

Hi Quinton, The glue used is known by a few names...Animal glue, pearl glue, Scotch glue and hide Hide glue. Don't be tempted to use epoxy resin!

Could it be earlier and who made it. I try to call.the gentlemen that is restaurimg it but it must be.closed . I did notice that he is in Australia. Does any one know about such peace and the maker.. i m ignorant.on the matter but felt in.love with the details. Please.if any one can help thanks. Have a good.weekend
