I've been doing some recording with a Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator PO-12 Rhythm . The PO-12 is a nice drum machine in many ways, but you can only chain 16 patterns before it loops back to the beginning of the pattern again, which is less than I need...
To get round this limitation and exploit tape saturation and EQ available to me via the My 424 mark 2, I have programmed the song in sections of 16 patterns one after the other on channels 1 through 3, that way I can add EQ and push the tape into saturation when I bounce the results to the fourth channel, allowing me to overwrite the information on channels 1 through 3 with the other parts of the song.
That gave me an opportunity to discuss how bouncing is achieved and to demonstrate how a digital drum machine translates to cassette with and without tape saturation.
DBX is turned on, and i'm using a type II cassette at the higher speed of 3&3/4 inches per second.
