Boundary Waters | Canoeing Minnesota’s Northwoods | Part 3

Our final few days in the BWCA give us the cold front we’ve been waiting for. Setting off from our island site on Lac La Croix, we are met with some steady wind as we prepare to cross some open bays. After contending with some big, open water, we enter Pocket Creek and continue the peaceful meandering through lowland meadows. Besides a few lakes to change up the rhythm, the rest of our trip primarily consists of these intimate shallow streams - the perfect habitat for beavers and moose. Our 6th day of paddling ultimately brings us back to where we started at the Moose River entry point.

Nice video! I enjoyed the footage, your narration, and being able to follow along the route. The beaver tail splash right in front of your canoe was cool too! I do hope the drone footage was outside of the bwca but it was pretty. "Never skip the portage or you'll find yourself wading through a swamp!" :) Thanks for sharing!

I’m just now noticing that boat you’re singlehandling is beamy as you know what! Holy cow. Beamy and long. Looks like everyone was pretty tired in this episode. Thanks for sharing for sure. 👍🏼

What was that instant bread mix you used (8:41)?

It’s called Bannock. Super easy to make. It’s just flour (1 cup), baking powder (1 tsp), salt (1/4 tsp), powdered milk (1/4 cup), and shortening (1 tbs). Then you can mix anything else in it you want like berries or dried fruit. Super good!

@@HonRon211 it is! Especially if you add in some dried fruit and put some butter and jam on it. Have fun with it! Let me know how it turns out! If you have a cast iron, you can fry it too. Lots of options.
