Robam Boung Soung Tiyae is a prayer dance. Created in the late 40s to 50s by Royal Ballet Palace Mistress Mâm Em Dok Peay. It is a dance that was only performed during holy ceremonies at the palace or temples when the country encounters turmoil and worrisome. the dancer seek to the heavens to bring forth blessings to the land and people of Cambodia. The lead dancer is “Preah Neang Tiyae” a goddess invoking the spirits from heaven and then comes to earth to bless her peoples along with her maiden deities for good health, longevity, prosperity and good fortune. To protect against warfare, drought, sickness and illness amongst the kingdom. This dance is to be considered the most sacred dance. This is the original, unaltered version of kbach Mâm Em Dok Peay and this is the first time it has ever been performed. There are other versions of this dance such as Mâm Kru Chovary, performed by HRH Norodom Bopha Devi in the 1960s royal ballet of Cambodia documentary.
