Just started playing yesterday, this guide will help me a lot

I love bounty hunting in my Chieftain. With fully engineered thrusters you can run circles around pretty much every ship.

Was a bit undecided between a Cobra Mk III and a Viper Mk IV because of the Viper's mobility rating BUT, I got the Cobra, put 2 laser beams, 2 auto cannons all gimballed, got what else I could to upgrade the power, thrusters and shields and I was lucky enough to get a few bounty hunting missions at the same system which paid both the money from the contract and the bounty, made the money back on the Cobra in no time

Both ships have their positives and negatives. I would say the Viper is a little bit better for bounty hunting, being a more focused combat ship, but is a little less versatile. Both are good choices though.

@Slamscape-X Oh yeah It is a bit of a positive leaning sort of mixed feeling when i'm spending time to research some of these differences but then still be able to mix and match modules for 1 or 2 job types

Back in the day when this game was fairly new and there were no gold min rushes for cash, I made my bones doing bounty hunting as it was the fastest way to get to 1mil credits. Glad to see they made it easier now

Running dual class 2 rails has been pretty effective so far.

I think to have a ship outfitted for a combat, you have to have a lot of knowledge. And this is a last activity in the game (except anti xeno). It's a bit easier now cause you don't have to grind guardian materials, but any way, a player must know and do a lot to open all engineers and gather all materials. Without a properly engineered ship a bounty hunting is like "I eliminated 5 pirates today!! That's my record! .. and died 10 times, but rebuy was really cheap - only few days of mining"
@Slamscape-XАй бұрын
This is more of a how to get into bounty hunting vs how to get good at combat guide. I think if you pass a few of the combat tutorial scenarios you can at least start learning combat. Also all the footage bounty hunting in this video was from un-engineered ships, I think if you had a Krait mk2 outfitted with A rated equipment and no engineering you'd be able to handle up to high res sites, interdiction and the like. I would say only Assassination missions can be on the harder side without engineering. That being said yes engineering is helpful, although even lvl 1 engineering would give a big leg up.

@@Slamscape-X I see. Makes sense. As for Krait II I'm not sure cause I remember that for me it was easier to use Fer-De-Lance in a combat than Krait II. It's too slow, even a Glorious Phyton is better (if you don't need a fighter hangar)., and a pilot must be more experienced to plan a next move

@@Slamscape-X Good stuff. I remember my first days as bounty hunter back in the days. Always so short on credits while upgrading to the next ship. Payouts were really low. I think it is so much easier now for beginners. I think I build myself a Viper MK4 just for fun. Kind of boring with overpowered and engineered Corvette/Anaconda. Cheers!
@Slamscape-X3 ай бұрын
@Tepnox Yeah, I remember grinding for hours just to be able to afford one upgraded module, let alone a new ship. Yeah I like to go bounty hunting in small ships with engineering, try and see what the biggest bounty I can get with the smallest ship.

This is helpful - how did you scan? I missed seeing a kill warrant scanner or something like that. Thanks
@Slamscape-XАй бұрын
When you target any ship, you keep it relatively close to the center of your hud, and after a few seconds you will get a basic scan of the ship revealing it's faction, combat difficulty and any warrants in your current system.

@@Slamscape-X OK, thanks for taking time to answer! I really need to get more into this side of the game. Have a great rest of your weekend.

I tweaked it slightly but it's 99% Vibrant Red on EDHM UI

Should I, AND HOW would I utilize collector limpets to get engineer materials as I do this ? New to the combat, but not totally new to the game. Elite in explorer and have many ships. BTW this is the BEST new player guide I have seen yet.
@Slamscape-X3 ай бұрын
You can use collector limpets to get materials while in combat, it's not the most efficient way, but it's effective. I would however not recommend doing that with small ships, they don't really have the cargo space, and you'll be limited in the number of limpets. It's better done on medium and large ships.

Is it weird that I want to use multi-cannons and missiles?? Because I really don’t like the lasers in ED
@Slamscape-XАй бұрын
@gentleman_waffle multi-cannons are great but missiles just don't have enough ammo for long term bounty hunting
@gentleman_waffleАй бұрын
@Slamscape-X so should I use pulse lasers or burst lasers?
@Slamscape-XАй бұрын
@@gentleman_waffle Depends on a lot of factors. Pulse are the lowest damage per second, but are the most efficient in terms of energy usage and heat generation. Beams are highest dps but use a lot more energy and generate more heat. Burst are in between both of those. I would say try them out and see which works best with your setup and pip usage.
@gentleman_waffleАй бұрын
@ okay I’ll do some testing

Use lasers to bring down shield. Use cannons to destroy hull. If you have room put a seeker missile in for those pansies that run away.
