Blantons Bourbon versus Blantons Golf Edition:
I've been waiting many years to try to Blantons Gold and compare it to the delicious original Blantons Bourbon. Here are my thoughts:
Blantons original:
Color: 1.1 Burnished
Nose: Sweet corn, hay, grassy tones, salted caramel and tangyness. Lots of sweet fruit and honey.
Palate: Very smooth mouth feel, rich and sweet corn sugar, earthy notes and soft spices. Honey, orchard fruits and incredibly smooth.
Finish: Medium length, sweetness carrying on and on as some stickier toffee notes and spices linger.
Taste: 90
ABV: 46.5%
Price: CAD ~$80
Value: 9 5/10
Blantons Gold Edition:
Color: 1.2 Chestnut Oloroso Sherry
Nose: Manuka honey, grassy, distant sweet corn, leathery and subtle vanilla.
Palate: Oily mouth feel, corn sugar, grassy notes, molasses, tingling and rich spices, charred oak. Some subtle fruit notes intermingled with salted caramel.
Finish: Long, sweetening, honey coming out as spices level out and fade away.
Taste: 92
ABV: 51.5%
Price: CAD ~$140
Value: 8.75/10
Ultimately the Gold is definitely better, and a fuller higher ABV version of the original, but I think the original has a higher value overall.
