Kris is a Rhodes Scholar/former Army Officer (Helicopter Pilot). Had the opportunity to teach at West Point, but chose to peddle songs in Nashville. He studied literature at Oxford when he was a Rhodes Scholar. There is a reason he has vibes, he can write damn well.

Kris makes ya think!!!! We, several struggling songwriters/singers, use to put on the latest Kris album, this was back in the 70's in Nashville - listen to the whole album & spend the rest of the evening critique Kris's new works! His works made us ALL better writers!! You can tell he has a Master's in Literature, from Oxford where he was a Rhodes Scholar, he sets VIBES & he makes ONE think!!!!! His ""Burden of Freedom"" is my life mantra since the 70's!!! I would send you a bottle BUT as a recovering alcoholic since 1998 - i simply can't do that!!! Billy Dee was written in the 70's way before Robin but way too many folks OD'd back then as they do nowadays!!!

Hi guys, this is the aimless one and you did better than most folks do digging the pronunciation out. Take the A, off and spell melaS backwards the one = 1. Tells you where I grew up! It's been an ordeal getting that bribe to you. Keith was right about the price of the bottle. I paid $65.00 plus tax for it here in Millinocket, Maine at a grocery store. This was in early October I believe. I'm seeing Mount Katahdin out my window, the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Wilderness has no amenities! The Blantons name meant nothing to me, it was the best Ellis's Market had in stock their top shelf bourbon. I've seen a large number of your reviews and enjoy you folks and love the concept of it. I saw a review after I bought this bottle I'm looking at on my desk. I see you tasting Blantons with another good song. I also found out I couldn't send it by USPS or UPS, so I call Amazon to send you that one and they got me that jug thru the large chain near your address. $179 or so with shipping and you have it. I also sent you another bottle I haven't seen on your reviews, and you should have that one there too. Pick another Kristofferson tune or a Hank Williams song, Kris studied Hank's style of writing and lived the songs he wrote. He paints a picture with few words in his tale and that's the thing Johnny Cash was sometimes missing! Thanks again. The Amelas One

That singer may have been Hank Williams Keith. Hank was the first Country Super Star. Dead at 29 with Hundreds of songs recorded. He's in four Hall of Fames including The Rock Hall and has a Star on the Hollywood Boulevard. Look at "Move it on Over" and several others. That was Hanks first #1 in 1947. Elvis was still in grade school. I knew his music before I could read, and he was still alive. I'll tell you the story later if you have an interest. Thank for a great KZbin site. Kris and his wife (at the time) Rita Coolidge- Don’t tell me how the story ends. I believe he wrote it when they were getting divorced. Ronnie Milsap does a good version of the song too.

Use and abuse was not uncommon. Kris makes reference to his friend and mentor Johnny Cash's substance battle. Johnny and Waylon were once roommates, Waylon and Willie were, well, Waylon & Willie. Kris was supposed to go see his friend Janis Joplin the night she died. He expressed regret for not making it there. In short, Billy Dee could be someone in that circle, or just a composite character created by a lyrical genius.

Wow. I haven't heard Shooting Star in maybe two decades. That was one of the three albums I had on tape in my shitbox car way back in the day. It was that one, The Cars, and Metallica's Ride the Lightning. To me, "Shooting Star" was kind of background filler. The song Bad Company was why people bought that album.
