Recently got a Stagg store pick that’s head and shoulders above everything else in my collection. It’s outdrinking all of my favorites. ECBP A123, Calumet 16, RR13, Still Austin Cask Strength, JD SBBP Rye, Rare Breed, Harding Creek Jacob’s Well 211, Barrell Bourbon Batch 35…nothing comparing right now. Ended up buying a bottle to bunker.

I just took a risk and bought an entire case of Stagg store pick at my local shop. Hands down the best Stagg I’ve ever had. That JD SBBP Rye is phenomenal in my opinion. Almost as good as OF SBBP Rye. I picked up all 3 that my store had and I’m afraid to open them hahaha. Might not see another one

Current store cost in my state is $57. 40% mark-up is $95. Just for point of view on the Stagg. I like the 23b but i don't have the A or C. so there is that. Cheers. I'll be doing a blind with batch 11 EH Taylor Barrell proof and 2020A Stagg. Both favorites of mine. Thanks for the video.

I have 23b and really like it as well. I only have 22b 23b and batch 18 to compare to. My brother has the 18. I have EH BP from 2022, which i think is 11. The 129ish proof. Not sure what you mean 2020a, in 2020, they were still stagg jr and not batched like 22a 22b etc. So do you mean 22a or the first batch in 2020 which would probably be like batch 14?

Got a stagg pick like 8 months ago in a lottery, and man while it smells like damn near the best whiskey I’ve ever smelled, the taste just…doesn’t line up with the nose. Wonder if they’ve been a little more inconsistent lately? I got to try a previous batch in a bar a while back and it was phenomenal.

Palettes are different, still go in with an open mind. I have loved my bottle the whole way through so far, open for about 3 months. Jason C from The Mash and Drum has it just ever so slightly behind batch 12 for his favorite all time (not sure how long its been open but he opens them right away and its drank down in that very recent video)

Excited you should be brother!!! I have both 23B and 23C and the 23C for me is much better than 23B imho. I have them opened for a week now and keep going back to 23B hoping it would get better but not really. The bitterness at the end gets me. So I mix it with the eagle rare as an experiment and it's actually pretty good lol. Check out Brad's Bourbon Review. He has good things to say about 23C. I don't care so much about what KZbin reviewer says if I like it I like it...

Nah... drink and enjoy it. It's delicious. Not saying these guys don't know what they're talking about, but it's safe to assume they had other drinks that day, drank a fresh crack of Cal 16 right before, etc. Palettes are different and what you drink/eat before a tasting matters. You may love it, you may hate it, but what the Junkies thought on this day doesn't matter one bit.

Wow ! My 23C is way better than my 23B, I do not have a 23A for reference. I have EHT BP #11 at that is a lot lighter on the nose and palate than 23C. My notes are with you on 23B young, char, light fruit but not very pleasant for what I was expecting. I was very disappointed because that was my first Stagg I bought. 23C was so much better, I dark cherry, chocolate with a very dark (sweet molasses) hint in the background. This was much closer to my expectations of Stagg.

Can you do a tutorial on how to tell batches and years? Elija Craigs,Larceny and barrel are easy(on the label). I have access to George T Stagg from 2016 to 2019 but could only tell the year on their website by the proof. I also have access to 2 bottles of EH Taylor TORNADO!!!!

i think that you warmed up with the wrong bourbon, Calumet 16 is good, but your palates could have been desensitized due to the heavyb complex old oak notes/tannins, which are present in the stagg but usually much weaker. (resulting in you only tasting less complex features of stagg) Personally I think it’s crazy that stagg is $200-300, while EHT BP is $400-600 in my neck of the woods. Stagg (8-9 yr old) tastes like a significantly more mature product than EHT BP, which i’m guessing from taste is more like 6-8 yr old, and maybe lower down in the rickhouse than Stagg Barrels. IDK, but that’s how they taste to me.

Crazy 23c didnt do well. I havent had it, but everyone says 23c is one of the best batches. 12, 22a, 23c. I have 22b, 23b, and my bro has 18. 23b is the better of the 3, and really good. I have EH BP 2022. I got them all toward the end of 2023. Figures, i got the worst of all the latest releases. I just started collecting last year. This coming Saturday, im going to a point redemption day that has jack 12, 10, stagg, rock hill farms, a few other decent bottles. My brother wants jack 12, told him only get it if its batch 1. I was going to get jack 10 if its batch 3. If they dont have batch 3 of jack 10, i was going to go for stagg if it was 22a or 23c. Now if they have 22a and jack 10, idk wtf im going to do. I have an EH SiB, they also will have that, so if they dont have JD 10 btch 3 or stagg 22a, do i just got for EH SiB again? Omg idk wtf to do lmao!!!

You guys are spoiled. I finally bought my first bottle of Stagg (23B), and it’s about the best bourbon I’ve ever tasted. I wouldn’t pay $280 again for it, but price and markup aside, it’s just a gorgeous, deep, rich flavor bourbon. Nothing bad to be said about it.

Maybe spoiled isn't the right word, but I can agree with you in some sense. 23B can be the "bottom of the barrel" as far as Staggs go, but all Staggs are great bourbon, some batches are just better than others. Considering they've probably tried most batches, their views are a bit skewed/exaggerated to some degree.

lol. This is the issue with these wars. On their own, some bottles are great. When you compare bottles, unexpected things happen. It also depends on the day and order you drink them. Besides, all you need to know about Stagg is that 22a was the best Stagg released in 2023.
