The palate is so influenced by what comes before it, not to mention getting blown out pretty quickly with enough whiskey, that blinds should never be looked at as an objective science. They are, however, fun and interesting.

I appreciate this idea and the notes on each of the bourbons, but you're really comparing allocated bourbons with other bourbons that aren't typically on shelves. For example, why not blind Russells 13 against Russells 10 or SB? Using an 11 year PBS feels a little like a cheat. Same with Makers Cellar Aged vs. BEP. Zach's palate is impressive!

I'm all about the Knob Creek 9yr, Russells Reserve small batch and Benchmark Bonded or Single Barrel as good, affordable everyday bourbons. Great review!

I also had a Russell's private 10 yr Warehouse TYR-8, beat a RR13 in a straight up blind. They can be REALLY special.

Yep. Also because age doesn't mean good. Some of the best single barrels I've ever had are Russel's with ages of 9-11 years.

Don't hunt for allocated bottles. Some of the best whiskey money can buy will be found in the form of store picks. Always look for store picks when you hunt.

Not sure which countries rejected the cellar age but it wasn’t Japan! I picked up 6 bottles for MSRP on Amazon Japan. First time ever finding something that rare for MSRP and I took full advantage because Maker’s is my favorite distillery

Except for the Knob Creek 9 and Benchmark FP, the rest are, in all practicality, "allocated" as far as I'm concerned.
@cartermayfield5 ай бұрын
Is it really fair to have an 11+ year RR pick represent “unallocated?” That’s like having a 4🌹 Father’s Day or Flood Relief pick represent “unallocated.” Those are not standard bottles these days. I have a hard time finding 10 year picks. Most are 8 or 9 year these days.
@heywardcampbell57215 ай бұрын
Which Benchmark is best? I’ve heard FP and Single Barrel are both good inexpensive whiskies.
@blakestah5 ай бұрын
Alternative interpretation: No 4-6 year old bourbon can beat any decent older bourbon from the same distillery. However, decent non-allocated products of 8+ years can beat allocated products from the same manufacturer.

Solid video…liking this type of content much better than your reviews. Zack, love your pallet bro, but sometimes you’re associating the pallet to something weird like Starbucks vanilla pops, a fast food chain cherry turnover, etc. which immediately invalidate the review for me (mainly because I don’t and will never eat that crap). That said - keep up the solid work!

These series, across all channels, continue to prove one point - allocated bottles are not THAT much better. Some might be better but in almost every case you were comparing an allocated bottle that has an MSRP of 2-3x the non-allocated bottle... At secondary, the gap doubles, if not triples. In no world is Stagg Jr really worth $200+. Russels 13 was originally going for like $500-600, and even now goes for WAY more than anyone should pay. Makers Cellar Aged at like $450-500... nah. I've tried every one of those bottles and none of them drank like "special" whiskey. Out of the allocations from the past year that I've sampled the only bottles that drank special were PVW Rye, 4 Roses 135th, and Bombergers, and RY3 Cigar Series. The last of those really isn't that allocated but it punched WAY above expectations. I have a bunch of store picks that are on par with ALL of those bottles, except the 4 Roses 135th. Admittedly - I haven't tried King of Kentucky, Russel's 15, or PVW 15, 20, or 23. Those might be next level but somehow I doubt they'd do exceptional for my palate. I tend to dislike a heavy oak impact. I have some 19+ year old whiskies in my collection that are very special because they are at most a 6/10 on the oakiness scale. Perfect for my palate. Only the 4 Roses LE's and Bombergers have been competitive with those bottles. Truly exceptional whiskey needs a LONG time without a crazy char level. Then you get aged whiskey instead of aged wood charcoal. For whatever reason the modern whiskey drinker has been tricked into believing aged charcoal is the desired profile of whiskey... instead of aged whiskey.

I'm not sure why people started this strange tend of doing "premiers" for their regular content but ya need to stop. It's very silly. Use that feature if you will be in the chat, maybe, but really a mid day release just means people watching while they are working anyway. I've seen larger creators (like those with 1million subs) do it because they will be in the chat but those videos usually release in the evening like 7pm est.
@bourbonkingdom5 ай бұрын
So the reason we started doing it because 1. People have requested it before because it helps to remind them. 2. We study the analytics of premiers vs non premiers for the start of our video and they always do a lot better actually. It's important for youtube to see a video do well within it's first hour so it can really take off. I appreciate the feed back though as we are always trying to do better for you all in every way shape and form.
