Police want to make sure they can prosecute some one without evidence being tampered with. Difficult to get unbiased witness statements when everyone has seen a video of the event.

All conspiracy theories aside, is it not unusual for the police to ask people not to speculate? I think its normal for peoples to speculate when the information is not yet available to the public.

Why are the Police being so coy? There are eight survivors who didn't need to be hospitalised, so presumably they are in a condition to be able to give a statement to the Police. Surely it is in the public interest to know what happened so that it does not occur again in future. Fore warned is fore armed.

@@Bombabingbong66 It’s called police work because it takes time to collect and collate all the statements from witnesses. Not only that but those witness statement could become worthless if said witness is compromised by seeing a video of the event as the court only wants them to talk about what they witnessed. Why do YOU need to know? The police may need time to make sure they are prosecuting the right person and have secured the evidence to convict them if guilty.

I've lived all my life in a coastal town and swimming is banned anywhere near piers and jetties, concrete or wood. The currents around these structures are deadly. I've seen a kid drown just by currents alone in chest high water. I'm guessing this is why the police are being coy as not to blame a person until they know for sure.

The only "good" news (if anything can be said to be so) is that the boy and girl weren't related. I was afraid they were siblings. Losing one child is enough to tear a parent apart, losing two or more is unthinkable. It's not going to comfort either family, and I send them all my deepest and most sincere condolences, but there is a touch of relief for those of us whose hearts immediately went out to them on hearing this devastating news.

So man arrested who was "on water" .............and the Bournemouth bell boat has been impounded .. its not rocket science to put two and two together and say its the captain of the vessel who has been arrested ............why , i would imagine the Bournemouth bell was not in the correct " shipping lane " and during embarkation from the pier caused a wake with the victims to be washed against the pier sustaining injuries , this combined with the rip tide with swimmers being washed out towards the pier . Notice they did not say the victims " drowned" but had significant injuries , yet no contact with the vessel ...........so they must have made contact with the pier . Terrible for the families but it sounds like a tragic accident

I think you are absolutely right. Yes there was quite a big emphasis on the fact that it was 'injuries' and not drowning. When the police have finished their 'top secret' investigation and it is revealed exactly what happened, they should put up huge warnings not so swim too close to the pier. (And avoid the Dorset Belle!) and 40 year old men 'on the water'.

Clicked comment replies until I saw one saying that waves made in the wake of a boat crashed people into a pier (which themselves can have currents?). This being the internet I can't say whether that's definite or not but sounds likely. You throw undertows into the mix and it can become a pain to piece together what actually happened. If they go 'this happened' and it turns out to not be the case re: weird water physics then they falsely accuse someone. re: requesting not to speculate unfortunately yeah its not satisfying having zero answers but people can get carried away, call mob justice on the wrong person, bereaved families don't like seeing it turn into an object of open gossip etc.

Also the RNLI don’t wait for people, they get called out to rescue and they were called to this incident.

I don’t think anyone can help but speculate. Unfortunately it seems like the police need more time to gather evidence. The problem is that people like going on witch hunts before all the evidence is in. Internet justice has proven time after time to be a weapon of mass distraction and will punish the innocent while allowing the guilty to avoid prosecution.
