I’m only 22 and I’ve lived here all my life, it’s actually saddening seeing what Bournemouth was once like I wish I was alive back then and not now 😥

I grew up in Bournemouth - Springbourne - during the 1950’s and 60’s. My brother and I and the friends we had were completely oblivious, at the time, of the idyllic childhood we were enjoying when compared to other children around the country. With no internet or social media and only limited television and ‘the pictures’ to inform us, we were unaware of our privileges. The beaches, the New Forest on our doorstep and the climate were all things we took for granted, considering another summers day kicking a ball around on the beach, roller skating on Boscombe Pier or ice skating in Westover Road just a bit boring. Visits to Pier approach Baths kept our swimming going during the winter before we could get back in the sea in April !!!!!!! Brrrrr…. Happy days.

I like this, really well done. I moved to Bournemouth 12 years ago and already so much seems to have changed. The one consistency wherever you go is that we don't build things as beautiful as we once did, not as brutal as the post war era but not built to last either.

Love this, thanks. I was born in 1967, in central Bournemouth and used to work in the Square 1988-1997. Working in Poole I don't get into town as much, but what I see is no longer the town I loved. So much has changed, seemingly more in the last twenty years or so than ever. Part of that is the general high street decline, with stores closing, part landlords and developers knocking down buildings and replacing with monstrosities. Part of that was probably the destruction of Pier Approach baths for a useless, barely used (now demolished) cinema. I often say if you want to see what's left of my town, look up. What's at ground level doesn't connect with me anymore. Your work here is very well done, thank you. As a bookseller I've sold a few 'then and now' books, including one the Echo published of images merging. I'm certainly going to be watching this more than a few times, much appreciated.

Appreciate the kind words. I may be tempted to do a Poole montage in a similiar vein. I did do a mini film if it is of interest here kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWmkmoyFZa1jgdU

Fantastic video love these amazing videos you do they really bring the past alive. Thank you. Just a friendly reminder that Bournemouth was in Hampshire up until April 1974 which is a lot of the scenes you covered so maybe a mention would be respectful to the past!😎❤️😎

Born in Boscombe hospital in 1974 and lived here all my life. I found your video quite emotional. I wish my parents, locals since their births in 1931 could be here to see it. They'd have had some stories to share!

What a fantastic video. I was born in Branksome (where the bowling alley is now) in 1960. Bournemouth used to be such a wonderful place - sadly, no longer. My brother and I went to the Pier Approach Baths most weekends in the mid 70s.

The picture at 3.18 mins, the steam engine's Fireman is me ! I always crooked my arm tight to the loco's cab side so that I would recognise myself anytime in the future !!

I too also keep my arm bent at all times just in case a photographer is taking a picture that i'll come across in 70 years, so that I can easily identify myself. It is what I'm known for. They'd say 'there goes 110 degrees dil', 110 degrees being the angle I would purposely hold my arm at. Surprisingly I have never identified myself in any old photos, and my elbow also hurts.

This is fantastic! Quite emotional too, as I am researching my ancestors who would have been to all those places, and I have stories that have been written to prove it. Love the added images, and the train sounds, going to look all over again. And again. How do you do these???😮

@@JamesFoxTimeTravelArtist Well, yeah, especially in the old picture the East Cliff can be seen. Not so much in the new one because of all the buildings. Anyway, well done!

Where will the urbanisation stop? People talk about rewilding, which means usually putting some wild seeds to grow in their garden, but the answer is to stop building and destroying the habitats that other creatures need to live in. When I watch this I don't see progress but a sickness of our civilisation, increasing commercialism and over population, all in the spirit of self advancement and greed, which is a kind of madness because what we needed to be happy was already there. Am I wrong?
