EPISODE FOUR: SEGMENT ONE
In the first segment of Episode 4, Host & Executive Producer, Tachic Hickman-Piazza, who is also the Founder & Principal Designer of Allured By Design®, a home & lifestyle multimedia brand, continues her shopping tour in her hometown of New Orleans. The first three episodes showed us the best places to shop all around town for elegant furnishings and home decor, custom bedding, unique and exclusive pieces and even beautiful artwork for our walls. We viewed showroom floors that celebrated an explosion of color, as well as neutral, monochromatic themes layered with loads of whites and golds. In addition, we also learned the similarities in prints and patterns shared between the worlds of Fashion and Interior Design.
As our host believes and stated in Episode 3,
"You can't just have a well dressed home, one must also have a well dressed body."
In Episode 4, Tachic explores two highly important elements of design that are crucial staple pieces for any home - one providing the foundation of a room, while the other frames a space. We first visit NOLA Rugs and speak with Manager, Shane Perkins, who talks to us not only about the importance of adding a rug to anchor a space but also the practical reasons why. We learn of the international places NOLA Rugs has their rugs imported from, as well as the kind of rugs they specialize in. This includes the creation of custom rugs, which is also their specialty.
We learn the history of NOLA Rugs first beginning in London and then later making New Orleans its home, thanks to owner Sharon Schenck. Of course, we do a tour of the facility viewing various imported woven rugs with beautiful colors, prints and patterns. But right before the tour, we learn the proper sizing of rugs and how to apply those sizes to our homes. A mistake that is often made by many, that Tachic aims to help others learn the proper sizes to place in their living rooms, bedrooms and so forth.
EPISODE FOUR: SEGMENT TWO
In the second segment, Tachic leaves the Jefferson area of New Orleans and makes her way Uptown to share with us all about the element of design that frames a space, curtains. We stop in The Curtain Exchange and chat with Owner, Elaine Cullen and Renee Garrett, Design Consultant and discuss all things curtains.
While rugs are known as the artwork for your floors, curtains provide the framing that gives a space a more polished and finished look. In addition, both rugs and curtains serve as a sound absorber, eliminating loud and harsh echos within a home. However, curtains also balance and block out excessive natural light, giving us the option to choose how much light we'd like to come into our homes. And, of course curtains also provide privacy.
The Curtain Exchange believes that a room without curtains is like a poem without words. Elaine elaborates on this quote further explaining the importance of adding curtains to a home or any space where curtains can provide the finishing look. We comically learn about the difference between drapes vs. curtains and the proper way to use both terms. And, finally we tour The Curtain Exchange and view a variety of beautiful curtain panels and samples all throughout their showroom floor.
