Boutique Yacht Builder - Carbon Delta 88

When my surveyor friend Keith Willis featured the Carbon Delta 88 yacht on his Instagram page I was intrigued. Keith is an outstanding yacht surveyor, and when he speaks highly of a yacht it is well worth checking out. I had already seen this yacht from the dock in Antibes and really liked the look of it, added to that my contacts and colleagues all shared his high opinion. I researched a little further, and here is my report back to you.

A Swede here, owning a Volvo. What an amazing yacht, what an amazing company. You add it all up very impressive and entertaining. I added Antibes to one of my "Where to go's in the summer" in my following year. Must be a lot of motorboats/yachts to see down there, if not- the weather is sure to be splendid in the summer. Oops ! Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble , she is actually built in Estonia , designed and owned by Scandinavian chap but built in Estonia . You would be stunned to know how many brands and tooling is built in Estonia , very intelligent and technologically capable builders . One of the reasons so many ex soviet states are actually the workhorses behind so many high end brands is because after the fall of the soviets many of these facilities were builders of fighter jets and components for the space program but now had no order book so turned to yachts, automotive (think new Land Rover defender, interiors for Porsche and bmw etc ) . Basically you yacht is being built under sub contract by faculties that used to build ballistic missiles and components for nuclear weapons . No wonder the tech is on point and above your average plastic fantastic .

I've been eyeing this yacht for a while. Hopefully they can make a bigger yacht out of carbon fiber. After all planes are made out of it. I heard this hull was very efficient too. The owners cabin is full beam but is setup differently from the traditional way yachts are usually laid out. I really like volvo ips engines too. Hopefully they can make a model with 4 Volvo penta engines like the amer cento quad. The biggest volvo penta engines are called ips-1350 but only has 1000 hp. Reason being, apparently the ips drives are that efficient that this 1000 hp is equivalent to 1350 hp with traditional shaft line propulsion. One of the biggest reasons I like this yacht is that it's not so huge that an owner operator couldn't operate it themself. Saving on crew is huge $$$. It's like the old saying goes, the two happiest days of a yacht owners life are the first day owning it and the last day. Mainly because yachts can become money pits. I would think many more people would get into yachting if one could operate it as a profitable business. Not just something that one throws money at. That would be a great video. If you could tell a story of a profitable yacht owner who wasn't filthy rich, buy and managed to own their own yacht by ways of using it as a profitable business. I'm sure they exist....somewhere.

Yachts For Sale sorry for being a bit verbose. It's just nice to see progress. As a relatively struggling enthusiast I will probably never own a mega yacht. However, as a typical petrol head, seeing and admiring great quality always excites. I was lucky enough to have been invited on a super yacht. That's what got me interested. It does not surprise me even though I must admit I would never have won a bet on the Swedes creating big yachts. The Swedes have made some exquisite classic wooden designs in mid 1900.

Now, weight is not a bad thing for a big boat, it handles waves better. So how does this one handle the sea? And pricewise, is it so much more expensive that you are better off with a 'convensional' boat?

The boats aren't built in Stockholm but in Estonia.

That surprises me...I spoke to the owner of the shipyard but I'll ask him if maybe some of the components are built there.

According to my information the boats are built in Saaremaa (Estonia) by Luksusjaht AS (owned by Lennart Alpstål). Luxusjaht AS also manufacture for Arcona Yachts. Delta push their Swedish origin not be involved with any quality perceptions of boats beeing built in Estonia - which is a shame and an example of poor marketing communication.

​@@okumonux You're right not great comms but is in fact a great story as Lennart moved to Estonia to hold onto his work force and has now put a boat building school and apprenticeship programme in place which provides a dedicated and reliable workforce. He couldn't do this when his first factory was in Sweden. The factory also has a 100ft milling machine which is the largest and most sophisticated in Europe - incredible place. The quality control and builders stamp is Swedish and Arcona yachts is a stamp of approval I suggest.

It seems that very few designers and shipyards are using carbon fibber on full yacht construction and I wonder why. Price should not be an excuse since aviation uses carbon fibber quite a lot and airplanes are not getting too expensive due to the use of this material. of course that carbon fibber requires a complete new tool line and ovens, but I think this is an unavoidable investment when you are about to launch a new product line / family. You could do a video about carbon fibber yachts and another about making a carbon fibber yacht. Congratulations on your youtube channel, I'm learning a lot. Cheers!

You should do some head to head videos of similar priced yachts and choose the winner. It might be a bit compromising for your relationship with the loosing yacht manufacturer though

Thanks Berni, that's actually a very very good suggestion. No reason to fall out with the manufacturers by speaking badly about their yachts - I can just point out the differences. Watch out for some videos like that in the future!

Hello, all Delta Powerboats and Arcona Yachts are made 100% in Saaremaa(Estonia) company called As Luksusjaht, worked there durning school and 5 years after myself, i doubt they hide origin of factory location as foreign owners visited factory often. Factory and quality of product are best of it's class, using vacuum infusion technology for most of details which is best in Fibreglass marine industry. I work for one of the biggest luxury boat builder at the moment and it's much more behind from As Luksusjaht.

Its not Carbon Delta Yacht... delta powerboat is the manufacturer, delta yacht 88 is the yachts name, originally the delta yacht 80 but the first buyer chose 88 due to sounding better 😊

"Heavy Lithium???" compared to what AGM, lead, or other types? Fyi, lithium batteries are considerably lighter than them all and they also greatly outperform them.

This is simply not true. How much are they paying you!. The yachts are NOT built in Sweden!! They are built on a small island off the coast of Estonia. But I'm sure you new this. Anything for a buck hey.
