My advice is that u should breathe fully and inflate your belly , push with the muscle of your belly so it goes out. Then you hold the breathin and u do the bow. Keep pushin meanwhile of course . You may fall because of the energy ascending so be careful

Is it possible that, because you've been through so much emotional stress (chronic stress) your stomach is always tensed? Is it possible that your brain think its normal to be tensed because its been tensed for so long? Thanks
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 7 жыл бұрын
Catherine Nadeau Short answer is yes. The brain tends to normalize things that have been around for a while. That means that a tight stomach goes unnoticed for a long time until we choose to release it either by this bow breathing, or if you've seen my other video on the ball in the gut. A skilled practitioner can get in there with hands, too, and release tension. Chronic stress is a reality, but it's not a fate. Releasing gut tension redefines the normal, and then we can more easily protect ourselves from future stress. Any other questions, feel free to let me know, and I'll post more videos!

Catherine nadeau, good question I’ve been emotional stressed for 3 years I literally had lower abdominal pressure/bloated/tightness for 3 years non stop could this be from anxiety??
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 6 жыл бұрын
Anxiety and general high levels of stress can cause a TON of issues muscularly. When we're in fight or flight (which stress and anxiety put us in that state), our body sends blood, oxygen, and other vital nutrients to the appendages to either fight something off or run like hell. If we don't learn how to get back into parasympathetic (rest relaxation), our organs don't get their necessary level of nutrition, and end up suffering greatly. Learning how to breathe from your belly, and taking at least 10 minutes a day to get back into the body really goes a long way towards healing the abdominal tightness and anxiety.

Great video, few questions. If I have an elevated rib cage/ rib flare standing, but sit in a flexed position all day; is this the exercise for me? Isn’t bowing back overstretching potentially the opposite of what needs to be done? Or am I overthinking this lol can you explain the shaking / vibrating a little more in depth? I assumed ab weaknes at first because of rib flare but like I mentioned , sitting in in a very flexed position but standing for some reason my abs dump out and ribs are flared a bit
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 6 жыл бұрын
I'll post a separate video on this for ya, as this is a video that gets a ton of questions and needs an update. Long story short, this isn't necessarily a stretch, although it can be for some people. For our nervous system, leaning backwards becomes difficult and 'scary' because we don't do it that often. So, the forward, rounded posture becomes our normal position, and feels safe. So, for a lot of people in that 'stuck' forward position, this bow position with the breathing helps 'shake' us loose, and proves to the nervous system that we can stand upright safely without falling backwards. I will say, it sounds like if your ribs are flared out, while I wouldn't worry about this making it worse, I would work on strengthening the diaphragm and lower chest/serratus muscles.

does this exercise benefits from breathing through the mouth and not the nose?
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 5 жыл бұрын
Well, try doing it both ways and see how it works for you. What I find for most people is that the open mouth relaxes the jaw muscles and the increased volume of air deepens the stretch in the tummy and ribs. Your mileage may vary though

I feel like I can't take a deep breath because my abdomen is really tight only on the left and when i try to my stomach churns. At the same time my abdomen feels stuffy and heavy when I stand for too long. I currently can't seem to feel much happiness or motivation because i just feel really heavy inside and it's been like this for a long time. This exercise seems to help a little in releasing the tension. Do you think anything else could help?
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 6 жыл бұрын
A few things come to mind. One would be working on vacuum breathing to help massage the internal organs (I do have a video on this). Another, which I will say in advance CAN make things worse, is to get a soft cushy ball, and roll out the abdominal area (I do want to put up a video on this soon, so stay tuned). One other exercise tip is to focus on rotation a LOT. In the yoga world, rotations are a great way to aid digestion and open up the abdominal cavity. The last thing I'd say is that there might be something in the diet that is causing some inflammation in the gut, and that would also lead to some of the symptoms you mention. Good luck, and let me know if there are any specific things you'd like to see more videos about!

Actually I was thinking, could this be because one or some of my core muscles are weak?
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 6 жыл бұрын
It is entirely possible. If the diaphragm is weak, and not allowing a full breath, the system would be on alert all the time and could help cause the anxiety. But, in my 7 years of experience, this has never been the case without toxic exposures or childhood asthma. The challenge is always in diagnosis, and that step is rather tricky via the internet. But I would be curious, Cho, if you had had any trauma in your past. Don't share publicly, unless you want to, but keep in mind that trauma is an emotional reaction to a stimulus, and not a rational thought about something that happened to us. Could even have been birth trauma, and it was stored in the tissues. If you want to pull on that thread some more, look up things like EMDR, Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE), Somatic Experiencing (SE), a lot more on bioenergetics, or even emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Good luck!

Hi Omid. I have a stutter and am doing many things to overcome a stutter, including breathing and stretching exercises, as I am convinced undong tension in the diaphragm is a crucial part of this. So, for how long shouldyou recommend I do this exercise and how many times per session?
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 7 жыл бұрын
Mauricio Mejia My philosophy with exercise is that there are workout moves, and there are work in moves. This is the later. For working in, I don't normally have reps and sets in mind, but more a feeling. In the video, I talk about what it feels like after, and I got that big release about 25 seconds through. Sometimes, I can hang out in the bow for up to 10 minutes and not experience the same release, and sometimes even 10 seconds there is too much. Start with just a few big breathes there to test the waters (and pain levels in the back) and keep increasing the time. But again, the focus is on the quality and depth of the breathe, not the position or time.

@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness Жыл бұрын
To answer your question, the back will tell you if you're going too far into the position. We're not trying to lean back, necessarily, but rather stretch the abdominal wall while it is working (eccentric stretching). Only lean back as far as you can keep the abdominals contracted to stabilize the back. This actually will teach you exactly why you might have back pain and most likely have a forward posture; the abs work great in a short contracted position, but when they get long (by standing up straight or leaning back) the abs weaken and the back gets compressed. Hope that helps! If not, let me know and I can do another video on this.

Im curious why do you breathe through your mouth while doing “bow”?
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 5 жыл бұрын
Many reasons, but two above the rest. One is a volume thing; can breathe a lot more air through an open mouth. The second reason is energy; we mouth breathe when sympathetically aroused, and we're trying to release stress/fear/anxiety from the stomach, all sympathetic nervous system stuff. Hope that helps :)

so the shaking is not necesarilly bad?
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 6 жыл бұрын
Christian Moreno Great question, cause with most other stretches, shaking means overstretching. But, think of the shaking here like a wet dog shaking off water; we're getting rid of excess tension in the stomach and hips. Another useful way of thinking about it: replace shaking with vibrating. When the area vibrates, it's akin to a massage for the abs.

One more question. Should i try to diaphragm all day long? Like at work?
@fourlightswellness
@fourlightswellness 6 жыл бұрын
It depends. If it distracts you from work, I'd say no. But, ideally with training you will be breathing with the diaphragm as a default. I recommend clients to use bow breathing once or twice a day, and I also have many other breathing exercises to help make breathing well a subconscious act. I'll try to add a few more videos on that in the near future.
