The one that works best for me is that I take both arms behind my neck with the wrists outside the pivotal bone and lift up and look up and wiggling my wrists just under the hard points of the skull and then rotate and wiggling my neck in the process of all this for decompression. Thanks for sharing all this important information and I am trying this right now 😀 👍

I don't normally attempt work on my car at 75 years old and with neck osteoarthritis. This weekend I tried to fix something that required me to work in a really uncomfortable position under a wheel arch. After a month of following these exercises I had a go and managed to do the job. Am I pleased! Thank you Dr Rowe.

Hi doctor, I find this video very helpful. I am a 63 years of age female with plenty of problems around the spine and specifically in neck area where I had a double c-fusion (more problematic on the right side). I will try most of the stretches recommended by you and I’m almost certain that they will be useful to me. I may add to those one more additional move utilizing the spoon - that of slowly running it along the soles of the feet and may be over the problematic areas, where it hurts the most, in order to “demagnetize” the body. Thankfully yours: Savka

Dr Rowe, thanks so much. Every problem I have had, your solutions have fixed. My neck wouldn't turn to the left very far without pain and stiffness. That can be dangerous while crossing an intersection where there is no traffic light. You have to be able to look both ways to be safe. We just visited Ireland and between the narrow streets, driving on the left, and plant obstructed views in the country, I wouldn't have survived without your techniques. There is such a gap between general practioners and chiropractors. Drugs or dangerous manipulations. I knew there had to be another answer. Thanks so much!

upper trapezius. That's my guy today. Thanks, Doc! Also, your stretch ideas are fantastic. I'm a drummer, and I need to be able to play. My 6-year-old accidentally gave me a charlie-horse by stepping on me, where my neck meets my shoulder while we were watching Saturday Morning Cartoons, together. lol. He felt terrible, and then he said, "Whenever I want to learn how to do something, I look it up on KZbin," and I figured I'd try it ... and that's how I found you. Thanks a ton. Not only do I play drums, but I ride a motorcycle more than half the time, and that is extremely difficult when you can't turn your head, lol.

The "spoon treatment" that Dr. Rowe describing is actually an ancient treatment that the Vietnamese have been using for centuries, called "coining". It is one heck of a effective treatment to combat stiff neck or sore muscle or body ache. For better result, they use medicated oil such as tiger balm or any available topical cream to rub on the affected area, then use a quarter coin or spoon to scratch in the same downward fashion with a steady & comfortable force until the skin gets red. Notice how the skin gets darker when the pain is more severe. Be careful not to over scratch or the skin can break and bleed. This method would work best if followed with steaming therapy.

On the fourth day of severe neck and shoulder pain I’ve had enough of losing sleep due to waking up from sharp pains shooting up my neck, so far I can feel some relief after doing multiple stretches, will continue to repeat as needed for the next couple days to see if things get better, pills and creams were barely taking the pain away only for it to come back again in the morning, thanks for the tips.

I have 20+ years of neck pain and stiffness under my belt. I just tried the spoon and towel and they both felt great. The spoon was sore at first but I eased into it. I love the towel stretches, so thank you. I'm curious if the spoon method can be used anywhere else on the neck such as the SCM, scalenes, etc. The muscles between my clavicles and my chin are also extremely tight...so much so that I have a really hard time tilting my head back. I don't know if the cause is the muscles in front or back or side that's causing this. Would love to get your thoughts on that. Thanks!

A lot of the pain your describing are referred pain, that is, muscle knots in other parts are causing pain where you feel them. You can try foam rolling your back and chest. You can also use essential oils, but you'll need help from some one to apply it to your back. Doctors recommend voltaren, but it might not work for you. Voltaren never worked for me, but essential oils work well

This video was a huge help. While speaking on the phone with my left hand i got kink in my neck causing a lot of stiffness and pain. This made it horrible to paint. I am a house painter. I watched the video and when did a self massage with the spoon it worked instantly.
