Bowers and Wilkins 606 S2 Anniversary Edition Review

A recent purchase of my first set of B&W 's ( had various brands over 45 years). The wife walks in the day I purchased them and she commented positively for the first time in 40 years of marriage 2 months later my son stayed for lunch & said let's hear your speakers then. I was asked to put Ed Sheeran joker & the queen as he plays it on his system all the time, His comment was Wow! Its like someone has taken a blanket off his speakers & said I have to buy some. I may be 64 but I still learn every day from past mistakes.

These are just fantastic! They do not sound of perform like a speaker in their price range. They sound like “the real deal”! Consider myself a good listener. I,vê worked as a recording engineer and producer at a studio for 4 years, and I’m a professional musician since my 15s. Just love how the sound rapidly deetach from the speaker and create a great soundstage! I do enjoy the “signature treble” on BWs, and this one is no diferent. It has DEPTH! Speacily if you tow in big! Strait, the deliver huge soundstage! Center locked in perfect! And very, very, very temperamental behavior as regards to amps! Tried some NADs (that I do like a lot) and sounded terrível. Mid highs disgusting. Tried with a Rotel - that I could not afford 😌 - and suddenly it was ALIVE! And at least, tried with PS AUDIO SPROUT. Wow! To me, inside a very large scale of money, THIS IS THE BEST integrated amp to play this. Sounds big, detailed, huge bass, very low, not muddy at all.. and matched so perfect with BW HIGHS, without hurting your ears. 705 is going to wait A LOT, until I upgrade.. lol. Congrats, man! I've never been a charts or a review guy, I always preferred what my ears likes, I've owned the old 600 series, the DM 602 S2 and had them paired with a B&W integrated amplifier, Aura Evolution VA100 II, they sounded fantastic, but then something got into me to upgrade my setup, it's like you said the b&w sound is an acquired taste. So I went on a shopping adventure, I tried, Klipsh, Kef, Wharfedale, and nothings sounded like I wanted, at the end I ended with a pair of B&W 606 s2 AE and a new amp, Rotel A12. My pair needed almost a month and a half to brake in, but when they did, oh well lets say they exceeded my expectations. From my experience owning these speakers for almost a year I can say that they need the time to brake in, the need to be properly positioned, heigh, distance between them ( I have mine 3m appart) and around 0.7m from the walls. Then they are not that bright or harsh ( I would say that they are a lively speakers), they are very and I mean very sensitive to the position and the quality of the source they play, every bad thing will be exposed like hell ( example poorly mastered tracks, badly compressed music etc). Also I might add that when connected to the Aura amp, their sound is massively changed in a positive way, they sound even better, more detailed and soft at the same time ( yeah I know this is contradictory) and the bass is even more tighter and packs a punch - long story short I love these speakers, but they are not for everyone

Hi, interesting content , I have 602 s3 for some time , but I feel in my set up at home my old speakers have better bass but I do like the 606. As you know a12 has like the a11 has 2 speaker outputs I still have my old speakers still set up . Regards mark

Hi, great interesting video, I had owned B&W 602 s3 for number of years which by the way best what hifi award years ago, I been looking to upgrade and looked at 606, focal coral 806, monitor audio silver 100 7g, whaifdate Evo 4.2 and more, I only got the 606 s2 annerversary at £349 and again was What hifi award in 2022. I use Rotel A11 tribune amp and same reviews said this is a petty good match for these speakers . You correctly said placement is inportant , but sometimes dependent on your listening room it's a compromise in placements. But as the Rotel have 2 sets of loudspeakers output,s so I still have my old speakers set up and can do ab on both sets , I found that my old speakers have better bass then new ones, the new ones has rear ported the old ones are front ported and old is in bigger enclosure. Hi are the 606 s2 a big upgrade on your 602 s3? i have the 601 s3 for 20 years was looking for an upgrade as one speakers rubber surround as stiffened up Your 602 s3 were always bass monsters 7inch driver and giant enclosure for bookshelfs, my 601 s3 i find bass is good but a bit flabby not enough definition and punch

@@balajirao8426 hi thanks for your message , I have 600s3 upstairs in bedroom, they sound petty good, the 607s2 are great bookshelf speakers , my 606 is on stands , but there lots of great speakers out there. On my other system I have bronze audio bx1 and Cambridge audio s30s which can be switched to have front set on or back set on whist front set is off. The cheapaudio man iTunes channel is great have look at his reviews on speakers . Regards mark

@@balajirao8426 , 606 s2 sound petty good but the new s3 are better, but I do like the 602s3 , bit more Bass , better I do a energy big sub to enhance the bass at lower end tho . Regards mark

They mellowed out quite a bit. Had I not ran them awhile I probably would have returned them immediately. However I had a feeling they needed to be exercised a bit.

Had some 607’s last year…best bass I’ve heard but top end was too much for me. Triangle BR02 more to my liking

@@manugrandest1683 Because there is not very much in the middle, v with a capital V I'm well aware some love that sound, however it's not for me . Probably why my collection of speakers are mostly 3 way configuration . The 607 also needs some power to wake them up .. The bass is very good for a speaker that size and the highs are better than the 606 but that's a personal opinion .

Bowers and Wilkens loudspeakers, historically going back to the 70’s have never had the midrange / treble subtlety, smoothness or indeed, accuracy of the best BBC designs(e.g. Spendor). Nothing has really changed much in 50 years except possibly in their most exclusive high priced designs….!

Awful measurements thats why it might play well on some recordings and bad on others, showroom grab your attention sell later down the line sound
