Heather Graham's character was a not so subtle dig at Anne Heche, who Steve Martin had a relationship for a time...until she met Ellen Degenneres, that is. Such a funny movie. Someone commented that you should watch the Eddie Murphy movie Call Me Dolemite....you should! It's a true story about a guy who made seriously bad films on the cheap, sort of like Bowfinger does here.

This movie was loosely based on Steve Martin's experiences with Hollywood. Kit was basically Tom Cruise, MindHead is Scientology, and Heather Graham was Anne Heche. I'd like to think this was a predecssor of Tropic thunder in terms of taking a dig at Hollywood while kinda being a love letter to it if that makes sense.

The Player (1992) was also a dig at Hollywood, but more of a drama - though it was funny too. I haven't seen it in a long time, but used to consider it the go-to Hollywood insider film

You have to check out "Mr. Church". It is one of Eddie Murphy's more serious roles. I think he should have won an award for it. VERY good drama. It shows that Eddie is versatile and has range.

steve martin has three "con man" films that I view as a sort of triolgy: Bowfinger, Sgt. Bilko, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I really recommend all three (especially the last one)

Great reaction guys! Bowfinger is one of those movies that I go back to every few years simply because the comedy is written so well. Every actor is seriously funny in each his or her way! "Bowfinger" is comedy brilliance and nothing less! On a side-note: I wanted to believe in Bowfinger, but when Betsy walked away...that kinda broke my heart, lol! ( :E

Great movie with Eddie at his best that really deserves a reaction from anyone is Dolomite Is My Name, it's a docucomedy about Blaxploitation martial artist/producer/actor/writer/director and stand-up comedian Rudy Ray Moore who was a big inspiration to Eddie to get into comedy and acting.

Come to think of it Bowfinger has a lot of Rudy Ray's characteristics and the martial arts ending is exactly the kind of choreography he used in his guerilla form of questioningly illegal filmmaking...also reminds me of Ed Wood.

I have been binging your videos the past few weeks since discovering the channel. This movie is one of many Eddie Murphy duds for me, unfortunately. Both he and Steve Martin have better movies out there. For Murphy: Coming to America (or for a more obscure movie, The Golden Child). For Martin: The Jerk or The Man with Two Brains. If you guys are accepting requests, how about 2006’s The Prestige? It stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson. This is an excellent movie that will throw you for a loop. You will want to watch the movie again immediately to pick up things you might’ve missed first go around. One of my favorite movies.
