Im. 60 years old and have seen the big gator gar population decimated with bow fishing ,I grew fishing the Trinity river and have seen their numbers decline. The one thing about bow fishing there is no catch and release

Love bowfishing, but wish they protected the alligator gar. It's one of the few species that preys on the asian carp destroying our river systems.

I use an old cool whip tub to coil my string into. I use a 150# Horton Yukon compound crossbow with AMS fishing bolts. Great fun,ain't it?

I am personally all for healthy hunting/fishing and bow fishing is a great way to do it, but if you take away predatory species you risk losing a valuable ecosystem. Plus in my opinion, they don't taste all that great.

Working on the river out of Memphis, I've taken my crossbow & fishing bolts to shoot from whatever barge we were shoving at the Asian carp jumping out of the water. I'd have so much fun that the towboat pilot would let me drive going back while he took a turn at it.

Some do. They have one piece of backstrap that I've heard is good if prepared well. It's gamey and very fishey. The other parts are poisonous. You need to know what your doing. Lol you need a sawza to cut through the armor & a Sharp fillet knife .
