This video will help you maintain or fix your Adjustable Dumbbells. Sometimes due to wear and tear, over time the adjustable dials will 'stick' or stop turning. After 4 hours of trying to figure out the problem, I have a solution for you.
The fix only takes 2-3 minutes, and all you need is a 'star' screw driver to do the entire fix.
Once completed your dials will spin freely and will not get stuck again.

@@johnpaulsousa913 shit sorry i commented on the wrong video, wasn't supposed to be this one, i can't get mine back in the dock. I reckon reason why you can dial is there not aligned properly. Not sure buddy, good luck and hope you fix it, they are expensive dumbells.

I thought these latches were an essential part of the mechanism. The latches on one of my bases come loose and I've been tightening it up multiple times. Pain in the arse but I'll try this fix. Top man for posting!

Thank you. I could not get the weight out of the cradle nor the dial to turn and tried everything. Removing the base allowed me to remove the weight and reset. I have 52.5 lbs and anytime I lift over 45lbs I seem to have a problem after putting the weight back.

Do you mean one side of the same dumbbell? Also do you mean it gets stuck and can’t lift off tray?

Sounds like the same issue as video. Just take the metal tab off. It is only there to allow you to lift the entire thing including base at once.

there is a white release button of the dumbbell. It is attached close to the handle. When you place the dumbbell in the holder, that button automatically gets pressed and releases a ball spring so you can turn the dials when they are in the holder. Use your finder or something else to press it in, and they will turn. Send me your email and i can send you a picture if you like.

For future reference...definitely do not use those base tabs as a means to lift the entire assembly. That's extremely unsafe and not what those tabs are really designed to accomplish. For example, if you set the dial between 5 and 7.5 and begin carrying the dumbbell and base....and the tab dislodges from the base....45+ pounds will end up falling toward your feet. The tabs purpose, as far as I have been able to tell, is two-fold. First, as a safety measure to ensure your dumbbells are always set to a weight before allowing you to remove the handle from the base. Second, possibly to aid transport. By setting the dials between any two numbers you "lock" the handle into the base. If you're transporting these dumbbells and they tip over on your seat or in your trunk, the weights aren't going to fall out all over your vehicle. Just tip the assembly back upright and you're good to go. Always always always carry these dumbbells and bases with two hands by grabbing the finger holds underneath each end of the base. About the dials, there are several reasons why dials may become stuck...none of which are related to the base tabs. I would not recommend removing those base tabs...there is no reason to do so.

@@AnneBurgess100 Hi Anne. None of the 4 dials turn? Are you able to lift the handles from their bases? Or are they also stuck in their bases? Both handles (all 4 dials) need to be set to the lowest weight setting before inserting the handles into their bases. If you insert an empty handle when its dials aren't on their lowest settings, it can get jammed in the weights. And, once inserted, both handles need to be fully seated onto the base. If either end of the handle is raised even slightly...as little as a millimeter..the dial on that side of the handle will not turn. Those are the very first two things I'd check. Are they copies or OEM? I ask because knockoffs tend to have more issues with their locking pins...the little plastic pins responsible for locking and unlocking dial rotation. If the pins do not properly retract enough, the dials can remain locked even when the handles are fully seated on their bases. That's the third thing I'd check.

Short answer is you do need them. Do not remove them as shown in the video. That's a safety issue and he's lucky he hasn't hurt himself yet. The tabs are designed to prevent you from removing the handles from the base until the dials have been turned to one of the 15 available weight settings (on a 552)...which, in turn, will lock the dials from rotating when the handles are lifted from the base. Removing the tabs is a great way to potentially accidentally lift an improperly locked dumbbell from the base. That could result in one or more weights falling from your handle when it is off the base.

Wrong! They are there only to enable the user to lift the entire dumbbell with the base all at once, otherwise it does nothing.

@@thewonn with all due respect, I have years of experience with this design. And I am the sole manufacturer of custom parts for these dumbbells. I created a video this evening and uploaded it to my channel to demonstrate exactly why you should not remove the base tabs on SelectTech dumbbells. While it is not impossible to safely operate the dumbbells without the tabs, it generally not a good idea. The tabs are a fail-safe.
