This is old video. But just to help others with this. You can use castration rings for the pivot point. They will last years.
@tedwright1380
@tedwright1380 Жыл бұрын
I made a set with the castration rings. Very easy to do. Pole price much higher in "23" but still a bargain compared to China sticks! BUT!!! This set up is not as stable as you would think! ( It's better than Offhand a little bit) the poles are very flexible. Using them with an air-rifle which has a much longer barrel dwell time is still a challenge when the kill zone is 1 inch or less.

First I thought this was stupid, but after watching all those other complicated vlogs of making gun mounts this is by far the easiest and best way for the same rifle support you need.

Good idea. I am thinking of converting my snow shoe trekking poles into shooting sticks, since I already have them. I will just have to buy some camo duck tape, for sound insulation and to make them less visible. Same setup, I just need to figure out if I want to hold them together with my hands, the wrist straps or some other way. Need to find a "field quick" way of holding them together.

I also am very budget minded when it comes to hunting and shooting accessories for the reason that it allows me to spend a little more on the Firearms and bows. I had a plan in mind when on how to make my own, but thought I would check to see how others were doing it. You made yours pretty well EXACTLY how I had it in mind. No need to look any further. great video....and very nice looking rifle

I think this is great information. It helps people like me who don't have the extra money for things like shooting sticks but I'll make a set just like this and I'll be proud of them. Same way when I plant my garden and harvest my own vegetables... Rock on man....

Tried it out, went to lowes, 2 garden stakes, 1' of tubing, and I cotter pin pack. About 5$ and some change. Took 5 minutes to put together, holds the weight of my heavy Mosin Nagant perfectly fine and it is the right hight for a blind chair. Great vid! Gonna try it out this weekend.

GREAT presentation! I got the 6' sticks at Home Depot (marketed by Vigoro in the garden section) - light and strong! I got the carabiners at Harbor Freight - the foam tubes on them are longer than the ones on the carabiners at Walmart for the same price). I noticed you struggling a bit on taking that foam off - here's a tip for anyone trying this: they are essentially the same as early 80s GRAB-ON bicycle grips, and if you soak in a little soapy water before removing or installing they slide right off! I got those off the carabiners in about 5 seconds! Hope to finish today - thanks again for the great video DIY!!!!!

On a serious note, instead of wasting money on the carbineers solely for the foam look into some of the pipe insulation or some hardware stores have dense foam wraps for lawn mower handles. Then again once you use the foam from the beeners you can use them for hanging equipment and such.

Hey just was looking to make a set of my own bipod sticks. I used your Idea and then did an upgrade. Instead of a pin and the figure, eight rings used some very strong rubber band rings that are Castrating bands we use on the farm. Works great. just to let you know of the other options you can use. thanks for a great video and the help with my build. love these now and very cheap like you said to make and they are durable

you can get those grips off the carabiners easier by shooting compressed air underneath them, thats how we get bike handle grips on and off easier.

Dunno how long the tubing would hold up in mixed temperature ranges and all, but..... You could use the same method of making a paracord bracelet and make a strap to go across the two. Added benefit - you'd have a few feet of paracord if you needed it. Now, I'm inspired to make some - thanx!

andrew syndergaard Depends how long you want your shooting sticks. Wether you shoot sitting kneeling or standing. They have club shafts that are almost 6' long. But i digress. I shoot off hand.

Another thing you could do to join the sticks is to get tubing that will go over both of the sticks, and it works as good as the pin, and you wont take the chance of splitting the stick.

For the record I love your vid's. I sub'd a couple days ago and watched all of them back to back. I do have an archery question for you. I'm getting back into it and found what seems to be a good bow it's the Martin Jag take down. Is there a rest you'd recommend for a recurve that might let me use the FOB's? If not what's a decent rest for a setup like that? Thank you for any help you can give me, take care from Texas.

Your ideas are good, but I wonder how noisy those sticks would prove to be as they rubbed together and rattled around when the hunter was hand-carrying them in the back country. I'd want to soundproof mine with a bit of pipe insulation. Also, I bet the price of those fancy carabiners sure drove the cost of your sticks well above the $4 you calculated.

Not sure how they cost you $4. By the time you buy the carabieners the plastic tube and the metal rods you're closer to 15. If you already had that stuff then ok, but most people don't. Get a wooden dowel big enough for a walking stick, screw a "y" hook onto the top and you're done.

I watched your video because I need a shooting stick to shoot zombies and other things such as things that kill just to kill. any questions? and by the way, they do not make any golf clubs longer 48 inches or four feet which ever is longer as one of your fans commented. I do respect your right to hunt and would fight with you against anyone who tried to stop you. I just can't see killing for the sake of killing. thanks and I am your friend
