I've used something similar in the UK, but also ran a band towards the bottom of each leg to prevent them clashing together when walking, to avoid spooking game. Hope this helps.

Made a functional tripod shooting stick by adding in an additional pole. Used textured 6' vine poles from a garden center. Sprayed a dark earth camo on the green coating. Utilized two bands where you added three. Then wrapped the top nesting area with paracord. Last, put three bands on each leg at 7" intervals starting at bottom point, and its dead quiet. Turned out very nice!! Cost total, less than $20 and I have spray paint for other projects.

If you put a few extra bands around the long legs of the stakes they won't rattle together when you're walking around with them

I know this is a year old thread but it's a dang good idea. Just as some people modified it a bit to their own liking, I drilled and put a small bolt with a rubber washer between the sticks. I was expecting solid steel under the plastic but it's just metal tubing and easy to drill through. I started hunting with my dad here in Arizona almost 60 years ago and it was a real treat to see deer and elk BEFORE they saw us. Sometimes though, ya just have a second or two in mountainous terrain for a shot and the sticks are not a viable option for me, but they come in handy for doubling as a hiking pole for sure. The sticks seem to stay together so they can be used to shoot off of without spreading them if the situation calls for it. I might "toy" with the idea of somehow bending the bottom of the stakes (I put the points on the bottom) slightly inward like a transit tripod. It's been a hundred year old design so I got to try it and see if the bipods "grab" the terrain better. Thanks for the video! great stuff

@@NBWildman Yep, I was late in subbing here. A little distracted right now. Was drawn for elk and deer this coming fall with the seasons only a week between. Two weeks of savage amusement! The way the elk drawing success rate is here in Arizona, and my age (69) it's an exciting opportunity. Thanks again for the info. I hope to be shooting off these sticks!

If you add more of the bands to each side after this part is complete, you would have a rubber rest instead of the plastic. It would help steady your rifle. This is a great idea! Thanks for the info!

I can tell you what I do I go to Walmart and I get those walking sticks you can get like two of them for $19 here in Wisconsin I don't know how much they are where you at but you can get those and you can crisscross them and you take the hand straps and you put it on the opposite side on both of them you got to cross just like that plus you can use the walking sticks the walk in the woods I do it all the time it's a lot better walking with those than it is just natural walking cuz you won't fall thank you

Brilliant. Suggestion: I would use the flat end down instead because once widely opened, the pointed tips could slip more easily than the flat tip biting in the ground with its 90 degrees edge. Suggestion 2: Second hand long skating cross country skiing poles work great too because they're light and very stiff, and (often) include a steel tooth. 5-10$ a pair in a second hand sport shop. I learned a lot of very good things on your channel. Thanks.

What are the stakes originally meant for? You said you got them from a Tire Store. You also said at first they were plastic coated steel and then you said they were plastic. Please explain!! They look like posts for electric fence and could be bought the same place you get the bands from. Lol
@NBWildman
@NBWildman 3 жыл бұрын
i said i got them from Canadian Tire. it's not really a tire store..they are labeled as a garden stake. these ones are a durable type plastic, but i have seen some with a steel core covered in plastic, sorry for the confusion

Those bands don't weather well if left in the elements full time. I have used them for their intended purposes for 40+ years and they are not indestructible. They also sell a tool for installation of the bands if you intended on using the whole bag. Lol

What are those exact sticks called you used for your build, company name, exact length, model number etc etc? I can't find anything like them, so I'll need to order them someplace. These will be a gift for my son's Birthday. By far these are the best idea I've seen yet!!! Thanks for sharing your idea and exactly how to build a set. 👍✌🙏
