Alaska is so beautiful and interesting! Drove 3500 miles in rented RV with my Dad just looking for animals and fishing. Was his lifetime dream to go, so was his 75th birthday present. Was so fun! I have been looking forward to this one as well since I saw a couple updates on the IG and listened to the story on HuntTalk Radio with Marcus and Randy. Definitely looks and sounds like an epic adventure. Thanks for doing a running tally on this hunt. Most people think that you have to spend 14-25k on an Alaskan moose hunt per person. But that’s a guided and staying in a lodge, not DIY public land. Less than 8k so far and that’s with 3 people. Still $2300 per person and some of us can’t afford that but we could if one made a point to save up for it over a year or two. Thank you for sharing.

A loud ear splitting whistle will often get a caribou to stop and take a better look at the source of the noise, often giving a nice broadside shot. I had a buddy that took some time to get comfortable for a shot, and the caribou eventually wouldn't stop for the whistle any more. In desperation I yodeled at them, and then the work started!

That looked like the airport in Fairbanks. It’s been awhile tho. Next time stop in that little shed outside of Fairbanks by Fox you’ll see a building on the side of the highway. Fill your water jugs there. It’s artesian water and some of best you’ll ever taste! It’s free. The semi that went by you guys. My uncles friend does that. Drives all the way to Prudhoe Bay with like huge huge loads and makes like $5,500 a load going there and $2,500 a load going back in the winter. That’s all he does he said is drive his semi 6 months out of the year 6 days a week and then he takes six months off and stays on the ranch next to us.

That is a fun hunt, did it many times while stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. Buddy and I used to drive up every year for Moose, Caribou, Griz, Wolf. Anyone doing this hunt should also pick up a Griz and Wolf tag...many opportunities. Caribou is pretty tough due to little cover. Also wondering if rental car companies changed their policies...many used to not allow you to take their vehicles up the Haul Road...not sure how they would know but. Caribou are primarily North of Atigun pass and the rest South between pass and Coldfoot.

Non-residents can’t do griz without a guide. But we used Alaska 4x4 Rentals and they definitely charge a premium to be able to drive the haul road.

the price of the tags is wild. im so danm lucky to live in alberta. . . moose tag for bow which is often just over the counter, no draw.... 40$
@45auto4 жыл бұрын

@averagearcher95234 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's the part your missing, the prices he is stating is for non resident alaska. You look at the costs for a non resident to hunt alberta, especially someone from the us, who has to be guided. Montana for example is $20 for resident elk tag. $800 for non resident

You can not really figure in food cost as your going to eat no matter where your at
@jimsomerville39244 жыл бұрын
True, if talking purely about the net cost, though the differential is relevant versus staying at home and eating. I would assume they could eater cheaper by staying home, due to price of food in Alaska, the need for more expensive prepared foods, eating out, etc. And if talking cash flow, then that money is coming out of your pocket for the trip.
