Great video! I have to tell you guys that brought back a lot of memories for me. I’m 51 years old and I spent the summers of 89’ and 90’ working up on the North Slope in Alaska working on the pipeline while I was in college at Penn State. I also spent April-October in 2006 and 2007 working at a gold mine in Nolan Creek (about 40 miles north of Coldfoot Alaska) My brother and his wife and family lived in Fairbanks for 41 years. That’s how I got my “Alaska connection”. Most of my time working in 89’ and 90’ was north of Atigun Pass and betwen pump station 3. I’ve been bow hunting since I was 14 and I would have loved to be able to hunt caribou with my bow while I was up there working, but we worked 7 days a week an average of 90-110 hours a week and while staying at the pump stations you’re not allowed to have any weapons, not even a bow! In 90’ I was up there well into September as I graduated in the spring of 90’. I watched many bow hunters along the Haul road hunt caribou with a bow and it drove me crazy not being able to do it myself! I also worked from Atigun Pass to Prudhoe Bay in September of 2008. I’m a surveyor and in 2008 my job was to set up GPS stations and let them collect data for 24 hours. I spent a lot of time in 2008 talking to and watching hunters along the haul road. I’ve always wanted to do the Haul road archery caribou hunt. I’ve hunted caribou in Ontario in 96’ with my buddy and we each got nice bulls with our bows. That was my one and only caribou hunt to date. I’ve since been obsessed with archery elk. I have to ask where you two are from? Did you buy a lot of your gear like coolers and Coleman stove in Fairbanks rather than paying for extra luggage on the flight? Also kudos for getting your caribou with a bow so quick! I really enjoyed watching you guys and I can recall most of the areas you were, especially the gas station with 5$/gallon gas 😂 Thanks for the great vidoe and bringing back so many memories!!! I’ve never hunted Alaska and my brother that lived there doesn’t hunt, which is a shame living in Alaska and not hunting !!! I have been able to do some fishing in Alaska on the upper Kenia river for huge rainbow and since I didn’t draw and archery elk tag in AZ or NM this year I may do a September trip to the upper Kenia river this fall. Not sure if you two are fishermen but that’s a great DIY trip as well. Fly into anchorage and rent a car and drive two hours and you’re fishing!

Hey thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed the video! We actually moved to Alaska last year. So we drove up from the kenai peninsula where we live. But the haul road is totally doable for someone from the lower 48 in fact it’s probably a hunt I’ll do again if I end up back in WI where I’m from. There are places you can rent gear in Fairbanks. Fishing the upper kenai for rainbows is something I definitely wanna do this year for sure! I’ve heard it’s insane!

Did you see anyone hunting out of Uhaul vans? I am doing to same hunt in August and will probably rent a uhaul because of the cost . Did you have any tire issues?
@destinationwild33054 жыл бұрын
I can't remember, but I know people do it. We had no flats but we did take two spares. Also had 20 gallons extra gas which made so we could skip fueling up in coldfoot on the way out. Since gas was over $5 a gallon there that was nice and saved us money.

You boys did a great job. Hunting the haul road can be an absolute nightmare. I’ve had people (observing) our hunts and being complete ass hats. I have had more hunts/stalks ruined by some of these idiots than you can imagine. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
