the messenger strike that Anthony Simonsen got in the 6th was very helpful

Don't make it sound like that was just dumb luck though. Sure, luck plays a part on every ball ever thrown in bowling. But these top pros, especially guys like Simonson who throws with such a high rev rate and hits the pocket from such a sharp angle, generate way more messengers than most of us local bowlers. When you throw balls like he does, you get lots of messengers (So does Belmo and Tackert and all those high rev rate bowlers) and that's just part of his game. Now, if he threw a shitty shot and got a brooklyn strike, I'd be with you in thinking that he was a lucky bastard.

OUCH! perfect example of why you should never give up. I know some people (myself included) that would be pretty bummed after those 1st 4 frames (in comparison to his opponent). way to shake it off. what a great match to watch

yes, particularly impressive since it was O'Neil bowling against Simonson, and Belmo was nowhere in the picture. I'm gonna assume Belmo watched this match from your house, sitting next to you on your couch. so when O'Neil, his good friend and doubles partner, threw that 4-6 split, He probably groaned right there next to you.

Wow, what a finish ! So much to be learned from this video. 1. It not how you start, it's how you finish ! 2. Bad breaks are part of this game and it can happen at any moment. 3. Bill showed professional class in the 10th. A lesson, most of us hackers could learn from. 4. Anthony showed a lot of heart in overcoming such a big lead by never giving up.

@Michael Duncan Ok your right about that. After viewing the end again, I see there was NO handshake. I also understand why. But he didn't take out his frustrations publicly. So.... whatever doesn't kill you ... makes you stronger !

Wow, I really didn't see that coming. Bill O'Neil has been bowling so well this year, and particularly in this game. I figured he could close his eyes and still hit the pocket, and the worst that could happen would be a flat 10, which he would easily pick up and earn the win. To see him throw it dead middle for the unmakable 4-6 split, and I quickly did the math...and I was like..OMFG! He lost!
@Mikey-1990
@Mikey-1990 4 жыл бұрын
As soon as Bill released it, you can tell he didn't like it by his body language. Got it a touch too far out, ball bit hard and checked up early. Figures it's the 4-6 too, which is a very difficult split to convert. Tough loss but he still did really good this season overall.

Glad they brought out a crowd of true, enthusiastic fans! Just kidding. It’s as if Bowlero paid these people to watch while they were waiting for their cosmic bowling party reservations. This place is less energetic than when I practice by myself!

Sorry, no bad luck was involved. When you just need a mark to seal the match, and had hit the pocket flush on just about every shot up to that point, and you throw the ball through the nose for a 4-6 split, that's basically a choke job, and you earned your break. Pretty much standing at the foul line in the NBA with no time and you need just 1 of 2 to win, and you throw an air ball. You can't blame a bad bounce if it's an air ball. Bill O'Neil threw perfect balls all game and then he threw it dead through the nose. That 4-6 was awful but was exactly what should have happened.

@Ironfangzu
@Ironfangzu 4 жыл бұрын
The truth is that these top guys are so good they throw 240-270 sometimes even on gimmicked up, super tough patterns. This certainly looked a lot easier than most, looking almost like a house shot. Both O'Neil and Simonson threw some balls that looked wide right and their balls came right back to hit flush into the pocket. I always wondered what kind of scores the guys you see on TV all the time would bowl if you gave them a fresh house shot pattern and let them loose. How many 300 games would they bowl? 1 out of 10? 1 out of 5??
