BA resort! Haha….went back to my hometown in GA this past weekend….bowled on string pins as well for the first time. Lanes were also bone dry! I knew I was in the wrong place when my BW 3.0 took an immediate left to the gutter….. Also, wasn’t a fan of the exposed ball return on top between the lanes…kicked the return on my first approach. Overall, not a fan of string pins or the hometown alley. Stellar edits at the beginning of this vid!! Cheers!

Great montage edit Mike! Went to a timeshare presentation at Moon Palace and got a free massage and tickets to a Rick Astley concert! I stayed at their sister property Sun Palace and had a good time. Gotta be careful of the spiked booze out there and in DR.

I bowl on *sanctioned* string pin for league (thought i'd give it a chance, mistake) and this is all very common. bad pin reaction, waiting for 10 minutes as the pins keep dropping themselves over and over, almost zero messengers cause they get stopped by the string.

I really like your one handed slower right up the back of it game. You should consider using a super strong urethane ball and adopting that style of bowling. Less moving parts and very predictable.

Yeah... Cancun, MX is really nice... I enjoyed it very much when I visted there a long time ago. This was a great video, and I think you covered all the bases for sure. That would be an awesome lifestyle to live every day no doubt about it. I'm like you, not that rich for that... closest thing I could think of some day is Marco Island, FL or Naples, FL area. I believe that is the closest thing to living in paradise and still being in the States besides living in Hawaii. The problem with Hawaii for me is it's just too damn far from everything (Main Land).

Around the 4:50 mark, when the pin setter kept trying to set the pins and couldn't .. I was laughing my ass off .. string pins are a joke! Fortunately for me, the general manager at my home bowling center (52 lanes), who has been there since they opened (many many years ago), says they absolutely will NEVER, NOT EVER, go to string pins. They can't, they will lose 90% of their bowlers if they do. They survive almost entirely from leagues and tournaments and they pack the house almost every night with leagues. This weekend (and next) they have tournaments all day, all weekend (even live broadcast on BowlTV right now .. Smyrna). String pins should be banned!! .. they are going to completely ruin bowling.

For the centers that make most of their profits off open play, stringpins make sense. For competition, stringpins shouldn’t even be in the question. But it is for some reason. 🤦🏽‍♂️

@@220avg - Except that it is a temporary fix. We had a really deep discussion about this with the manager at our center (very smart guy when it comes to bowl industry). As he says, this is a "quick fix" for some centers but will lead to their demise, explaining exactly how. By contrast, our center is actually promoting "bowling", not "family fun center" garbage. The "family fun center" stuff is a short-term fad and cannot be sustained (again, showing exactly why). As he points out, the bowling industry as a whole is making a HUGE mistake by its promotion of string pin bowling centers (family fun centers). FYI, our bowling center has now been able to attract the PBA50, WPBA and next year the PBA. And that's on top of State Championships for Collegiate (going on now on BowlTV) and High School tournaments. Our manager, in my view, is smart, very smart. He is promoting YOUTH bowling very vigorously .. this is exactly how I saved one of our golf courses decades ago. I turned a failing golf course into one of the most popular golf courses in the area. How? .. by very very aggressively catering to the youth. You cater to the youth, you get the parents as a bonus. It's like 2 birds with 1 stone. And, you can get them for life, if you do thing right. THIS is how you save the sport! .. Not through stupid stunts like string pins. I will make you this bet .. better than 80% of all string pin bowling centers will be closed in 20 years .. I guarantee it.

Actually, we have the perfect testbed for my theory (opinion) on this topic, happening in our area right now. They just opened 2 new "family fun centers" with string pins. Meanwhile, one of our "family fun centers" with freefall pins has just changed ownership. The new ownership is in the process of removing ALL of the "family fun center" crap (laser tag, bumper cars, etc) and replacing them with freefall bowling lanes, tripling their current bowling capacity. They are now going to cater to leagues and tournament play with a large emphasis on youth bowling. My prediction: in just a few short years 1/2 of the "family fun centers" in this area will be closed and the league/tournament facilities will be thriving. Smyrna Bowling Center shows you exactly why. If they could, the would expand from 52 to 104 lanes in a heartbeat, because they can consistently fill them all, and, they are open 24/7. bowltv.com/collegiate-channel6 .. happening right now in fact...

Another thing that the family fun centers, at least in larger cities, are not considering. There is an extra cost associated with catering to that sector of society. Unfortunately, especially these days, they attract a LOT of riffraff (drugs, crime, etc). These leads to increased maintenance costs (continual property damages) and security. Where as centers like SBC maintain a zero tolerance policy and keep the riffraff out, providing a save, clean and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. SBC is turning into one of the best places in the country to bowl, and consequently one of the busiest bowling centers as well. They keep things as inexpensive is possible and keep the environment pleasurable. They do the hard things and it pays off.

I'm saying all of this stuff Michael, because you made a video some time back ago talking about this very subject, and I agreed with MUCH of what you had to say about it then. I think you were right in a lot of your assessment at that time. I think YOU should be more involved in your local bowling centers to help drive things this way. I envision you as a tremendous asset in this area. I think you should become a promoter. You have fantastic ideas !! .. You are extremely creative .. you should use that to promote crazy types of tournaments and events, that are fun and attract the young and old alike. THIS is EXACTLY how I saved a golf course. You would be fantastic doing the same thing for bowling, I just know it! ... think outside of the box!!! .. and implement it! .. you are good at these things. Even I have some ideas that could be quite intriguing and perhaps even ground breaking. Reach out if you ever want to discuss, could be a lot of fun.
