I agree with you 100%. Just like the sport of tennis there is NO coaching allowed during match play. Should be the same for PBA once you’re in a game like you said for qualifying or step ladder then it should only be the bowler to figure shit out on their own. Isn’t that the reason why they are “pros”? If you’re a pro and can’t figure your own issues out on the fly then something is wrong there.

The no plug rule isn't for changing your own layout, it's primarily to shut down the used ball market. Now you have to buy from them if you want a particular ball, because you need it fresh out of the box (unless somehow you're exceedingly lucky, having the same exact measurements).

I’ve recently started thinking about the rules in regard to ball surface. I don’t really understand why bowlers aren’t allowed to adjust bowling ball surface after competition starts. I don’t understand why the rule was initially made. And I don’t know if it’s totally relevant anymore. If your instincts tell you half way through game three that more surface on your balls cover would help then you should be able to make that adjustment. Then reap the rewards for the smart or bad decision. I don’t see how it could negatively affect competition. Idk, maybe I’m crazy.
@stevendefeo8424

You’ve made me think about this now. My answer would be, that it would waste too much time. Imagine let’s say 30% of the players need to do this and they need to use the pro shop’s equipment to do it. Well they can only do so many at a time. That would take a 3 hour league night to at least 4-5 hours. I don’t wanna wait for people to do this. I still kick that players ass on the lane with their newly surfaced ball and my ball the way it was from the start. I like this rule and hope it doesn’t go away. People are mindful about other peoples time and people changing the surface would just take too much time. Hell people who take smoke breaks are irritating because of how long they take.
@lucasr648

@@stevendefeo8424 I’m not talking about a whole resurfacing job. I’m talking about taking an abralon pad and quickly scuffing your ball up. Weight holes absolutely need to be brought back. It gets to be really burdensome for a customer to tweak ball reaction with weight holes being outlawed. Now, a customer has to plug the entire ball and redrill a different layout if ball motion doesn’t end up ideal-whereas it used to be so much simpler and cost effective to just add a small hole.

If you want asymmetric ball motion, the other option is don’t buy a symmetric ball.
@reyngel
@reyngel 2 жыл бұрын
@@remoevans7847 For most bowlers, in most situations, it is almost impossible to know exactly and specifically how a ball is going to roll until after it’s drilled and used, regardless of symmetric vs asymmetric. There are various types of symmetric and asymmetric motion, as well as various levels of strength and earliness of phase transition from skid to hook, and hook to roll relative to the matchup of core dynamics to a bowler’s speed and rev rate. Weight holes allow a bowler to try a ball out, observe what’s working and what isn’t, and then make adjustments when cover surface changes aren’t enough.

I think the USBC needs to be less strict on the softness of balls, because while yes they do dig in a hook a little more, the simple fact is that all balls will get softer over time and it’s hard to create an equal playing field for the average bowler in that regard since they probably aren’t getting balls drilled as frequently as the guys on tour. And you still need to be accurate with a soft ball so I don’t like the rule… now it might be a little biased cause I loved my Spectre that I can’t use anymore but that’s my opinion

I'd go in for testing all PBA and LPBT members for steroids and other performance enhancers. The way some pros throw the ball nowadays I don't see how they bowl 50-100 games a week or more without hurting their wrists, elbows and backs. In order to be taken seriously as an Olympic and international sport, there has to be testing for PFDs. I'm sure that juicing gives a bowler a lot more of an edge than using a ball that is a couple of points soft.
@wingracer1614

I kind of agree but do want to say during the time I was kinda thinking about getting really serious about bowling 20 years ago, I was throwing 50+ games a night 2 and sometimes 3 times a week. I never once had any issues with wrist, back or elbow. Once you start doing it that much, you build up the strength surprisingly quickly. And I was and still am a very high rev, med-high velocity bowler. The only physical issues I had were my left knee (born with it, genetic problem I can nothing about) and my forearm would get quite sore if I let it cool down. When that happened, I just had to throw through the pain for about 1 game and it would loosen up and be fine. As long as I kept loose and warm, I could throw all day and all night. Unfortunately, a combination of my bad knee and the fact that I could never quite get the accuracy of the true pros convinced me that professional bowling was not an option for me. I still bowl occasionally and I'm still pretty good but I have to admit, if I thought I was good enough to do it, I probably would get on steroids and HGH to see if that would get me to the next level.

Then they introduced a rule where you need an X on the palm side of your ball if there's no thumb hole, which is also fine but I think it's solving a problem that never really existed. But now they're introducing all of these new restrictions as if the sport of bowling has been unfair and failing, when in reality, bowling is the most popular now as it's been the whole 21st century. If you can't bowl raw, find another hobby. 😊

I was wondering why people don't bowl with undrilled balls and just use those sticky rubber gloves that NFL wide receivers use where if they can swat the ball they've caught it. Then I found "no holes" balls can't really be biased weighted then, because you'd have endless layouts at your fingertips.

You want to level the playing field? Why the HELL would you take the handicapped out of the game? "Cleansing" the sport? You may disregard this ridiculous rule change. I am very concerned about discrimination! If you have wrist, muscle problems...it's like taking handicapped access points to stores away from those that need them. Handicapped people shop elsewhere...only people that can walk can shop here! Sound trivial? Then that really concerns me. Think about it. Talk to the reps? Yup. Justify their jobs and disregard the average bowler. I thought the PBA and USBC were trying to gain a following. Seems if they aren't careful it will deter people. Especially those that have limited funds and cannot afford new balls every two years, or those YOU took the level playing field from by banning wrist support??? Holy cow!

I understand there have to be some rules. Just like a corked bat. As a new bowler now I kinda get why there are not more balls with style. I came from playing pool and I enjoyed the beauty of my pool cue, with jade inlays and the craftsmanship. Now when I'm buying bowling balls I don't the like the bright circus-like colors, I was looking for style. James Bond kind of style like a silver ball, or gold inlays, or something to make my ball mine. Not factory-made. I like the Belmo Clear, but those are not available, I liked the all-white Quantum Bias, but that is also not a choice. So I felt like I am stuck to join the circus like everyone else. (i just purchased the Brutal Collision). BUT now with these rule changes and RULES in general I get it, it's too hard and risky to be innovative with balls. I just wish some company would come out with a line that sold bespoke quality in my bowling ball and gear. Solid colors with class, or clear, or metal inlays. Is it me or am I the only one who doesn't care for a bright checked, polka-dot, Ronald McDonald outfits?

I think PBA should make the same rule for Reactive Bowling Balls to be Fair. Urethane balls, todays balls price is too expensive for me. My ball speed is 12-13mpg with heavy roll. My ball speed is too slow to roll any Reactive ball. I believe, the Definiation of a Illegal ball is a bowling ball that gains momentum as it hits the pins. If there is a ball that gets strikes every shot no matter where it hits the pocket or middle of the Head pin. I can see that because it give a Unfair Advantage. Is there any Science to back up the PBA's opinion that a Softer Urethane ball gives a Unfair advantage ? Did they make this decision because too many Bad bowlers Complain because the effect the Urethane balls have on the Lane ? Reactive dry's up the Front part of the Lane. It makes my ball Hook way too soon. Personally, If I move Left to the left gutter and Loft the ball, I will hurt my Lower Back. There needs to be Fairness before any Biased decisions are made. Paul Klanecky
@DisturbedPsic0
@DisturbedPsic0 2 жыл бұрын
A couple of things. 1) There isn't a ball that strikes every time it hits the pins. 2) I'm not sure I understand your reasoning by saying "the definition of an illegal ball is one that gains momentum as it hits the pins". There are two types of velocity with a bowling ball, the speed you throw it towards the pins (forward), and the speed at which it changes direction at the break point (sideways). The second is the one I think you have an issue with, and by definition weight blocks inside reactive balls can make this velocity change quicker than plastic, urethane, etc. And honestly, this velocity isn't what matters. If you think of force (F = ma), all that matters is mass and acceleration. The heavier the ball, and the faster you throw it, the more force it hits the pins. The change of direction downlane only helps with entry angle. If you take the two different balls that weigh the same and throw it the same speed and they enter the pocket at the same angle, nothing else matters. One could be thrown from first arrow and the other from the sixth arrow, doesn't make a difference. One can be plastic and the other can be reactive, doesn't make a difference. 3) The issue with the older urethane isn't because they were unfair when they were made. The PBA has a ruling on how "hard" the balls can be. Over time, these batches of specific urethane balls became softer, and fell below the floor of what was acceptable by PBA rule. If you think about a car tire, if you deflate it a bit, more of the tire contacts the road and it has more control. It makes for a sludgy movement. Same with bowling balls. If they get softer, they will start to hook more, and perform in a way they weren't intended. 4) I'm not sure what formats you bowl in, but 12-13 MPH is really slow. And if you're throwing urethane, they're designed to hook in the front. So don't throw urethane when the fronts are burned up. If it's just league, you shouldn't be running into situations where the lanes change a ton, can't say the same depending on other types of tournaments. But the ball will always move in direction of rotation, so if you're really spinning it sideways with slow speed, it'll be hard to keep the ball on the correct side of the head pin anyway. More end over end roll really helps with slower ball speed. Also using a reactive ball that is weak, meaning it hooks later instead of early like urethane can help a lot as well. Having said all that, reactive balls change the lane that is conducive to consistency. Bowlers like to see oil in the front, and dry in the back of the pattern. Reactive balls take oil off the lane. When the front starts to get dry, bowlers move inside to catch more fresh oil, and feed the ball to the same breakpoint that is still dry. When urethane is used, it simply pushes the oil down the lane with the balls. This also makes the front of the lane dry, but it also makes the back of the lane oily. So when people move left to catch more oil in the front, and send it to the same break point, there is now oil there that wasn't there before and the ball doesn't hook. Hook up front and hang in the back is the worst ball reaction to have, no matter what ball you are throwing. Personally I'd rather put the emphasis on the ball manufacturers to make a reactive coverstock/core combination that is super weak for the higher rev bowlers who struggle to go straight. This way oil isn't pushed down lane and the integrity of the oil pattern is preserved throughout competition.

@@DisturbedPsic0 Reactive Resin Balls are designed to hit the Pins Harder than Urethane. Since, Reactive Resin Balls came out, the PBA averages has Gone UP each year. When Urethane balls were introduced we bowled on Wood lanes. The effect the lane close to the Head Pin would DRY out and hook too much. We had to move in because the Oil was heavy at the Foul Line. Now, with today's lane and bowling ball its not the opposite problem. Urethane balls carry oil down the lane making it slicker.
@DisturbedPsic0
@DisturbedPsic0 2 жыл бұрын
@@SolutionSpotlight-z4y averages have gone up for a few reasons. One is that the patterns have gotten better and more conducive to scoring. Another is the reactive balls, but not because they hit harder. The combination of the cores and coverstocks allow the manufacturers to control where on the lane the ball hooks. Some reactive balls hook early, some hook in the midlane, and others hook in the back. This gives the players more options and when you give talented people more options, they will tend to do better.

It’s impossible to lease (edit: please) everyone and “fair” doesn’t exist because everyone has a different perspective of what fair is. I don't agree or disagree with having weight holes or having them back but definitely the pros gloves do not help you have an advantage in Bowling not at all a fair playing field is not getting rid of risk supports it's having sports makes a player because for some people that have a bad wrist or something or they can't create that red that the support will help them create it makes it a player failing player Fair playing field so they can compete with the bowlers that naturally are able to create all those revolutions with wanting to matter if they're one-handed or two-handed now your handicapping some bowlers that are not going to ever compete with a lot of these high Rev one-handers and two-handers

So for the weight hole - the whole reason it went away because once you put the weight hole you were able to really stretch the differentials, which is why they opted to remove them. (That is how it was explained to me). I agree the impact on scoring has been minimal, its still a step in the right direction in terms of keeping balls closer to what the specs should be in terms of RGs and Differentials
@TraumaER
@TraumaER 2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsantonastaso3907 not sure if stretch is accurate. Maybe you are right? From my understanding the diff you see on a new ball is changed slightly when you drill finger/thumb holes in the ball. The extra weight hole brings the ball back to that diff on the box and sometimes up to the maximum allowable by rules 0.060. I think they took it away because USBC or whoever said that created high flaring balls that took off more oil from the lane. I have no weight holes and still flare over half the ball. FAIL LOL. But I don't know much about drilling so I might be wrong hah.
