Welcome back to Bowling Science!
In Episode 13, we looked at the effect of sanding your bowling ball with Scotch Brite pads on a short sport pattern. Today we take a look at using surface on a longer PBA oil pattern, the Scorpion. Sanding textured pearl coverstocks like that of the Radical Results and Conspiracy Theory, can yield twice as much change in performance compare to conventional resins.

As a newer bowler, I really appreciate the quality of this channel. The videos are top notch, and Mikey's fundaments are ridiculously nice to watch. Continuing to learn more from this channel!

Idea/recommendation for one of your bowling science vids: 3 of any Asym ball you choose. Exact same angles on all 3, but with 3 different pin to pap distances. For example 55x3.5x30 55x4.5x30 55x5.5x30 Break down the breakpoint distance, entry angle, pap migration, mark the Pin on the ball with tape so we can see how it migrates down the lane. Then the next video, do the same thing on a Symmetric ball, so we can have some hard video evidence for how pin to pap distance effects each type of ball, beyond just flare and rolling forward.

I misspoke at one point and called the burgundy pad 320, oops! It is a 360 pad... the brown is 220.

Makes me feel that I might not need a solid after all. That the pearl will slide through the oil and finally hook in the end. And if it's not enough I can just sand it. Love it.

Thanks Mikey...I hit my Conspiracy Hybrid with a grey Scotch Brite pad because it was running too long at the house where I bowl. The ball now begins to hook sooner and continues through the pins for better carry.

Mikey! Great videos. I have learned way more in your videos than I have on any other channel. This may sound a bit elementary, but can you do a video based on pin reaction. Maybe why you are leaving a 10 pin, or 4 pin? Great videos! Keep it up!

Hello Mikey! It's good to see you starting to monetize your channel. Might I suggest an affiliate link to a bowling pro shop where the channel would get a small percentage any click through sales from your link? If people are going to buy a ball anyway, that will be another (very) few extra dollars to help keep these wonderful videos going. You have an inside lane with your network of bowling guru's and savants. It seems to me like somewhere in that group, you would know which online pro shop would provide the quality you can stand behind at a competitive price. Your recommendation would definitely go a long way!

Would love to see a comparison between Solids, Pearls and Hybrids. If you put the same surface on, say Squatch, Squatch Solid and Squatch Hybrid, how big is the difference between the balls?

So if you're wanting to get more left, and have the ball read earlier, would you just keep sanding down your pearls or would you just go to a solid or something like that?
@BowlingScience

The sanded textured pearls will out hook the sanded solids. I use solids for smoother transition shapes...

Are any of the recent Brunswick hybrids like the squatch hybrid textured? Are solids naturally textured?
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 4 жыл бұрын
The only textured Pearl's I know of are Results, Conspiracy Theory, Hero, and Uppercut. Havent seen a textured solid or hybrid yet... The Conspiracy Theory is only textured on the blue part of the cover. The purple is a conventional Radical pearl. I am excited to test the Results, as it is textured pearl on the whole ball!

I'm scared to lower the grit on my conspiracy theory. I'm already super deep with the ball on fresh. Very strong ball. I can move as far left as I want with increasing axis rotation. Fantastic ball.

What's the difference between a traditional pearl and textured pearl?
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 4 жыл бұрын
It is similar to a particle pearl, it has component that gets rougher when sanded. You can see how the blue part of the ball has a deeper pearl look than the purple in the sanding shots, that is the textured pearl portion. It looks like a glitter flake. The Results has double the textured pearl! It's in both colors on that ball...
@joncho9689
@joncho9689 4 жыл бұрын
@@BowlingScience Doesnt all surface become rougher after sanding? Also balls are poured not milled so wouldnt there be risk involved if half the cover was made of a different material? Also that would make drilling more complicated to align the bowlers track to the "textured" area.
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 4 жыл бұрын
@jon cho all balls do get rougher when sanded, but textured pearls will result in MORE hook change when sanded. Also, balls have used different formulas in different colors for years. What do you think a hybrid ball is? Half solid, half pearl, where one color has pearl additive and one doesn't. The rotation of the ball makes the "placement" of the colors not matter...
