You gotta love these AMF 8230 pinspotters! I so remember those from my childhood. Classic TV at its best.

Sometime in the mid to late 50's I sat in the audience of this show and watched Johnny King shoot a 300 for $10,000. He started slow at 204 and then finished the second game with, I believe, nine strikes in a row for a game in the 250's. He started the third game with nine in a row and was on the approach ready to throw his first ball in the tenth, when all of a sudden the TV lights went out. There was a delay of forty-five minutes which Johnny spent at the bar, and finally he came out for the final three shots and buried each one. Talk about ice water in the veins. Since the show was filmed, no one ever knew about the delay and Wilson never mentioned it when it aired. I can still see Johnny pounding on the wall to the left of lane 5 after the final strike. I've loved bowling for many years and this was my biggest thrill in the game.

That's amazing. Never heard of this guy till I saw these shows and you saw him get 21 in a row. A lot of pros back then didn't even have a perfect game to their credit

I just noticed no arrows on the lanes.

Billy Welu taught me how to bowl. He and his dad owned the old Pladium Lanes in Houston. I bowled in the junior leagues there and when Billy wasn't out on tour, he would come in and coach the juniors. He would also bring in people like Dick Weber and Carmen Salvino to do clinics for us. The good old days...

Bowling Stars featured pros on the AMF staff, Lou Campi and Don Cater were Brunswick. You ought to know, that over the years it's been charged that the Bowling Stars Lanes were oiled with a rather large hold spot. The scores were much higher than rival Championship Bowling. Anyone remember Carmen Salvino's 845? Johnny King is so much fun to watch - so cool.

Johnny King puts a tremendous amount of roll on the ball.

Never liked the total pinfall format where you could ride one high game to victory.There should be a bonus if you win 2 out of 3 but lose pinfall

Lou Campi was an AMF staffer. Look for the Celebrity Lanes clips I have on my channel, featuring Campi. You can see he's wearing the AMF shirt (with the Magic Triangle on the breast).

Obviously Billy Welu was a great bowler and a great announcer and a wonderful feller, but I have never watched a match that he ever won. Aside from some early victories and a Master's did he ever win at all, even on Championship Bowling?. He just didn't seem to be able to make the clutch shots, but he was a great one, a legend. Would some one direct me to a match he won....

You know, Welu won plenty. But sadly, so much of the old footage is gone and we may never get to relive it. I know there are quite a few (if not all) of the old Championship Bowling episodes still floating around. Welu's career, of course had kind of already peaked by the time the PBA came along (although I believe he was one of the few individuals who were in that room with Eddie Elias when it began). It's such a shame that more of those early telecasts aren't still around.

BowlingOldies Thank you for the response and for posting historic bowling shows. I enjoy watching old bowling matches(and new ones), and I do wish there were more. Perhaps one day someone will locate the master's Tournament that Billy Welu did won.

@@multicaruana He won 2 out of 3 here, he should have gotten a bonus for that

Wow a lot of spelling error's at 1:03 LOL. 1: Pinball=Pinfall 2: 4 pins=40 pin's, and so on.
@joeambrose32604 жыл бұрын
He did win the 2nd game by 4 pins, and auto- correct changes pinfall to pinball and sometimes you don't check it
