I agree for sure with Bakes when he says footwork dictates what the swing does. I did a series of virtual lessons with him earlier this year to help me get out of a slump that had extended into multiple years. At the start of the first lesson, he told me we need to rebuild my footwork and that'll fix my other issues. It took a lot of practice over several months to get the muscle memory really ingrained, but now I am throwing the ball better than I have in a long, long time. Changing my setup position and the direction and length of my steps helped me keep my spine tilt under control, and all that helped me maintain balance through the entire swing and at the foul line. Without even thinking about it, it freed up my swing and helped me stop using as much muscle in it, and it got me in a better position on the downswing which helped fix my release. Not once did he actually give me any specific instruction on what to do with my swing, it just fixed itself as a result of fixing my feet and posture! I also did get to have an in-person lesson with him a few weeks ago since I happened to be in Anaheim for a few days anyway, and that was such a treat!

21:00 that was my last night of league. I felt like I wasn't throwing it the greatest the first two games, left alot of pins out there. Decided to just relax and have fun, focus on my marks and threw a 256 the last game.

That last piece about bowling for score is so important. I practice everyday and it’s easy to take that into league and tournament especially when you are not throwing the ball well. Just throw the crappy shot accurately lol. Keeps you from getting frustrated.

I took a few virtual lessons from Mark, and he really help my timing and spare making. Last week I shot 701 in league. This was about 4 weeks after my last lesson. It was worth every penny and I'll be taking more lessons in the future.

As to the flat feet question; like Mark, I wouldn't know how much that would affect the physical aspect of your approach in bowling. Personally I do know that having any problems with your feet, shoe Orthotics that are well fitted to your feet are super beneficial in any physical activity you may engage in. Thanks Mark for all the great bowling advice!

My biggest problem would be when I would have to get into my zone 3 I can never seem to get the ball to make the turn and get to the pocket when I have to get inside of 15 as a righty. Can’t wait to try what Mark said about getting his thumb over certain parts at release to get the axis rotation need to get the ball to make the turn. I thought just getting more revs would help but as much as I’ve tried I think I’m stuck where I’m at with rev rate (probably around the low end of a tweener) hopefully I can make it work

Awesome video and always love hearing the answers to a lot of questions I tend to have. I am a right hand, thumb in, bowler and am always working on my approach and release. The past couple weeks in both leagues I have noticed my slide foot ending a bit funky... or maybe I just didnt notice it before. Half the time my toe and heel are in a nice fairly straight line or heel is a tad to the left. The other half my heel is kicked to the right. My toe normally ends up within a board of where I started and always has... it may be a board left or right but always consistent. It's just my heel is sliding more to the right than it ever has. Any ideas to fix this would be great!

Having trouble with wrapping the 10 lately, I'm a right handed 2 hander. I moved deeper, slowed it down, changed balls and was still wrapping the ten...maybe it was just a bad night. I avg 187

Question: I'm on the no-thumb one-handed journey with conventional fingers per my ortho. Sometimes I find myself tracking over my middle finger recently as I get more comfortable with the release and try to stay behind the ball. Is this a cause for concern or should I just not worry about that unless the track never leaves the finger?

The problem with the bowling shoes, is that yes they are rated to be nonmarking on the soles....but not all the materials of the shoe are nonmarking, like on top of the toe.

If you have flat feet it’s better if you bowl in regular sneakers. Buy a pair just for bowl. All basketball sneaker are nonskid. If you don’t slide you should try regular sneakers. I became a lot more consistent and my knee stop hurting

I have be struggling with closing my shoulder. Im a bigger 1 hand lefty. When doing no step and one step drills, it stays in the right spot and i stay behind the ball. But as soon as I start taking my full approach I close. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

Is there an "optimal speed" for bowling? 2 finger no thumb. I do slide with a 5 step approach. Pretty young as well. My bowling center tends to clock between 16 and 18. Too fast?

15 MPH at the pins. Any lower and it won't have enough power, any higher and it'll deflect.

There is no optimal speed. Your optimal speed changes when you change balls, rotation, rev rate.

As an nba fan before I was a bowler- those lebron riffs were funny as all hell. Even though Mark is speaking nothing but faks, Lebron still Probably the GOAT at this point, man. That guy’s out there 40 years old, and even though he’s by no means the player he was during his peak in 2012-2013(!!!) he’s still far from being a trivial player, and that’s simply insane. Lebron is father time’s father.
