What Dick Weber told me to do was shoot for the 7 or 10 pin on my practice games on the first ball then shoot for the pocket on the second ball. That way you practice both aspects of the game at the same time. Raised my average 20 pins almost overnight when I was in high school

@@Anthonysmith-ic8ef yep. My wife left the 5,7,10 split 3 times in one game a few weeks ago. And it was a pocket shot all 3 times. I always try and let her bowl her game without trying to help her because I don't like someone trying to tell me how to bowl. But I was like you need to step 8 inches forward or backwards on the approach to change the angle you are hitting. Sure enough it fixed it the next ball. Then she ended up beating me so I knew I should not of helped her.🤣🤣

I personally like using the 3-6-9 spare system. My style (tweener) always has hook, and my house tends to be drier after the headers. I agree with keeping the ball in oil longer. Now if I could just hit my target more consistently...

Hey guys, absolutely love your videos, I am from Scotland and i never miss a video!!! Anyway i just wanted to share a little story About 7 or more years ago, USBC Gold Coach Ron Hatfield came to Scotland for a coaching camps, and at the time Ron was coaching Rhino Page, at that moment in time i had always had issues with spares, even when trying to throw straight... I spoke with Rhino and he shared with me that he actually looks at the pins reflection on the lane when aiming at spares, i gave it a go and have never looked back.. Even though i still miss some (COME ON WE ARE HUMAN AFTERALL!!!) i think i could easily say that i have consistently picked up more than 75% of my spares ever since

I started in a league last week (stand-in bowler, half way through the season). My scores were all over...160-230 range. It depends on how I'm feeling as to how many Strikes i bowl. But one thing I've been pretty consistent at and I tell people ALL the time that ask advice..."Work on picking up spares!". You can still bowl a good game if you close every frame. My nemesis, the 10 pin. I have a high rev, unusual 2 finger bowl style. I've bowled this way so much that I actually CANNOT bowl straight. I've resorted to a very slow, left hand bowl that looks like a child threw it...but it works 80% of the time, every time. ^_^

These are my strategies for converting spares: For 5, 3, and 2 pins, I use my strike ball to give it a little bit of hook. Same goes for double wood Since I am right-handed, I use my spare ball at the 6 and 10 pins. For 4 and 7 pins, I use my strike ball to give some hook. There are times I have used my spare ball. I can tell you my other strategies in private communications. Missing makable spares are the pain killers.

Typically sports shots won’t give you as much miss rooms and hooking at certain spares may not work. I bowled Junior Gold (the youth national tournament) last summer and there was one pattern that was really long. I couldn’t get my ball to read to hook at any left or middle spares, and I ended up throwing straight at everything. They are probably envisioning that and it does really work in any situation, as long as you have practiced it emough

not TOTALLY true about half the lane to pick up a single pin (center) spare...for example the 5 pin...the circumference of the pin is 5 inches (rounded) and the circumference of the ball is 8.5 inches (rounded)...now the here is the strange part...if you measure at the widest part of the ball, you will have a 22 inch target, but i you measure at the contact point of the ball (lane boards), you will only have aprox. a 13.5 inch target...(try it with a ball & pins and you will see)...the difference in measurements is similar to "wheel's paradox" where you can get two different measurements of the same thing

You guys assume everyone knows how to roll a straight ball. Especially when im 84 years old . . . I coach people on picking up spares on a house shot. But i miss the 10 pin without ever going into the gutter . . .Rich Colorado im a silver coach . . .

Won't learning just a straight ball work for 90% of the spares you have to hit and lane conditions would never matter?

Brad do you flatten your palm or keep your wrist straight? Or do you throw your spare ball as the same as your strike ball? What I mean is do you shot your spare as the same as a strike shot, i.e spinning your ball or flatting your shot.. some ppl have told me to roll your spare ball has the same way you would a strike shot.. I shoot my 7 pin across the 4/3 arrow in between. But some have said why a spare ball I just flatten my ball out it doesn’t cure. But then I’m off balance..
