Earl Anthony said he and Nelson Jr. walked into a house lane and Jr. threw 42 strikes in a row. Said he never saw anything like it.

Almost impossible to do. Even if you threw 42 perfect shots, you still have to carry all of them.

I definitely believe it. Personally watched Bo around 82 or 83 while in town for the PBA National, come to my then home center of Southwyck Lanes and proceed to shoot a 900 doing the 7-arrow challenge. Simply amazing.

I remember that. He was carrying messenger strikes from 7th arrow.

How cool is it to see only 3 balls on the return? Keep these videos coming BowlingOldies :)

It's also nice to see pro bowlers who aren't walking billboards. Just plain bowling shirts with no advertising of ball manufacturers, insert brands, and so on.

Such an advantage to bowl left handed. That oil pattern was crazy. Balls were literally heading right instead of hooking left for the last 15 feet on that one lane. How often does Bo Burton miss the headpin?

You gotta love the intro and buffer music for ABC bowling in its prime in the 70's

I always like to revisit reruns where Bo is bowling-he was always happy-go-lucky and affable on the booth, but he's got this intense concentration you wouldn't expect when he's bowling.

Earl! How he got that plastic ball to work. True magic.

Just to get the facts right, the song at the three minute mark is "Breezin'" by George Benson.

Always liked that tune, and it was nice to see that it was used so much on these old telecasts, once I started catching up with these.

I think that was part of his greatness, and a common thread amongst most all of the all-time greats. Earl, Mark Roth, Marshall Holman, Walter Ray immediately come to mind - hand in ball, set their feet, and they're gone.

i almost don't recognize nelson with his outfit and haircut but the gold shoes are a giveaway.

Admitted I never saw a lot of Dave Frame but he seemed to have very poor timing and finish position and very little hand. Am surprised he lasted for some years on Tour.

For as great as Earl was (the best ever in my opinion), he sure didn't waste a whole heck of a lot of time setting himself on the approach.

Was Earl champion in 1979 High Life Open? Please respond me.

The winner was Johnny Petraglia but I don't know if he defeated Coleman or Anthony.

3 minute mark. Barry White’s Love Theme. I used to love ABC playing this weekly during their telecasts
@johnseal566 жыл бұрын
It's Breezin' by George Benson (before he began singing), but it's certainly not far off! I have a feeling that telecasts more in this vein, versus the modern technology heavy, almost industrial ones, would go over well with the ratings. Like a Bob Ross type thing.

You are thinking of ABC’s golf coverage which used the Love Unlimited Orchestra’s “Love Theme”. I can dig it!

I used to watch these growing up but I don't remember anyone with the last name Coleman. Maybe he only made a small number of shows.

How in the world Earl Anthony was so good I will never know. I can always look at a successful bowler, and it's either: a) they do one thing extremely well, or b) they do many things very well. I've been trying to find Earl's edge for 30 years. All I can think is his accuracy because he doesn't have anything else.
@frederickmattson1968 Жыл бұрын
He knew how to control speed and ballroll better than anyone out there. He did not need technology or extra revs to make his game. Superior touch and knowing how to move the pins, no matter the angle.

Your statement explains perfectly why you haven't been able to find Earl's edge for 30 years. Learn the game!
