He's became too self-conscious and awkward after winning his first title. His mental game would have been better if he stopped forcing a good guy persona on himself. He started out almost as arrogant as PDW and Sean Rash but later tries to hide it with the resting bitch face. For the record he still won the match at 2:09 on the bench because Ken Simard missed in the 10th frame

@@TheReal_LordFarquad yeah but I meant his earlier day. He also altered his approach a lot and seems to struggle to get a strong-backend reaction. In 1989 he was a hard-throwing cranker but in the 90s onwards he was a textbook (power) stroker. It seems like Wichita State bowlers are more prone to choking, perhaps it's the pressure from collegiate bowling.

My guess is he was caught up in the moment as an underdog winner and wanted to say something inspirational related to being an underdog and that cliche was the first thing he thought of.
