Greg Bowman, PhD, an assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, is leading a supercomputing project called Folding@home. The project seeks to unravel the mysteries of protein dynamics, including the folding process, and their roles in health and disease. See this story for more information about Bowman and the project: medicine.wustl.edu/news/bowma...

Currently donating an RTX 2060 super, GTX 1070, 1660 and 1650 along with 4 i7's of various generations. I'm happy to be a part of the F@H network and sincerely wish more people were exposed to this. It should be an optional tool built into the GeForce Experience software.

Contributing with a GTX 1080 Ti 11gb and a GTX 980 8gb. I am looking into buying additionally two GTX 1070's to add to the mix.

There's your problem, the MacBook! Hehe! You need the PC Master-race, with their 2080ti's and Titans getting in on the show. (Which is why mines, now folding 👍😊)

@Francesco Gambini what points could be achieved on 2080ti if same folding happened on it?

Does anyone here know the name for the disease that Dr Bownman has? A friend of mine is slowly losing her vision the same way and I immediatly thought of this video. Help would be appreciated.

A lot of people won't want to put up the running cost of a power-hungry GPU, if you choose provide a monetary incentive upon discovering a certain cure for example, I feel a lot more people would contribute. In all honesty it just looks like an easy way to get free computing power to develop drugs that will then of course be sold on

I agree it's like Goodwill's business plan. Give us free stuff to sell so you'll feel good that you are "helping" people while at the same time you help us else get rich.

@Francesco Gambini I doubt it will offset the additional running costs in my electricity bill. What do you earn in a month with this curecoin? Peanuts?

This is pretty close to pure research, though hopefully someone can build on these findings therapeutically. Perhaps it will even move us closer to a long term solution for viruses like the new corona virus. I might not get rich from such a breakthrough, but hopefully I will get a chance to benefit from it. In any case, it is still cool enough outside that I am running the heat anyway. 😉

They don't calculate pharmaceuticals, it's research. It's like helping out Niels Bohr with his calculations into relativity and quantum physics, but asking him to provide a monetary incentive upon accidentally building your first atomic car. Why he's just tryina get rich off your back isn't he?

Fuck OpenCL and CUDA. Just plain use a Vulkan and Metal compute backend. And also add compatibility for Android and iOS devices.
