One thing that I absolutely love about this show is that this is a topical comedy show, from over a decade ago, and the jokes still land. Some land differently with hindsight and the events that have happened since, but good comedy is good comedy. So thanks for sharing it!

Roisin laughing and snorting constantly… But desperately trying to keep it under control… Is one of the most wholesome and cutest things!!! She just seems like a really sweet person. And she’s really come into her own and matured in comedy the past few years. And I’ve been happy to see that.

@tonib5899 Жыл бұрын
@@steve17bf2 We have only a sample of one, so it could just be a statistical anomaly. Its also not just a matter of where but also when. they could be that far apart in time neither would be aware of the others existence in the same space. Binary systems would contain too much radiation for life, stars going supernova and destroying their own systems would leave no evidence of non technological species. Stars too large would have too much gravity and smaller ones not enough. People normally discuss only the goldilocks zone and ignore all the rest that would need to be prerequisites for carbon based cellular functioning life. We may not be the first and wont be the last. We have passed a certain stage though. If our sun blew up destroying the solar system, Voyagers 1 and 2 will make it to the nearest other system in about 40,000 years. Ensuring objective proof a planet once existed full of life.

Hey Brits, dumb question from an American (no, they will never end): Are the poppies worn in remembrance of the fallen British soldiers in WWI, or is there a broader meaning? It's obviously a very important cultural statement in the UK, but does it go beyond the soldiers in WWI? When I was a kid in Minnesota, we made "poppies" out of paper on Armistice Day, now Veterans' Day (11 Nov), but that went away sometime in the 1970s. I think here it was only in remembrance of the fallen WWI soldiers. I see them a lot on these panel shows, and I actually watch meetings of the UK Parliament (I know, kinda sad, right?), and I see them there too. I'd just like some context. Thanks! BTW, the last scene in the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth always makes me cry, and the poppy fields emerging from the gray are so moving! When was the last time one of our sitcoms actually expressed something so moving and profound? "Light entertainment" my ass. (Sorry, arse.) That was heavy, brilliant, timeless, and deeply human. Nothing light about it.
@joiedevivre51192 ай бұрын
Yes, they are. They grew resiliently in bombed out fields, inspiring the poem at Ypres by a Canadian soldier and physician, John McCrae, that was published in Punch in 1915 : In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
