Ok to settle this 7 year old dispute, technically it wouldn't have mattered, but that's with consideration for the happening star, which Jon only got due to a completely random dice roll at the end of the game. If Jon didn't get that single roll, than yes, failing to do that trade would have resulted in a loss. Why risk a 1/10 chance that you win, when you could ensure a 100% chance?

Jon’s win may have been the most satisfying win across the board (pun certainly intended), from his keen tactics to excellent play in the minigames and of course Mario being the most logical character to bear Bowser. The bit after the board where he said he grew up with Mario Party 2 more out of all of ‘em is just icing on the cake! Fantastic set of games for this LP if you ask me!

Tim would have gotten the coin star if he used his Bowser Suit at 1:45. In this board, if you use a Bowser Suit and you pass the bank, you get all of the coins in the bank.

I think that is an overstatement. Every time Chugga chose to steal coins instead of a star, he was thinking of getting the bonus coin star which he almost always got. And besides, Jon's wins on Mystery Land, Horror Land, and Bowser Land were by at least 2 stars and so a star steal is unlikely to have altered the result. I think the only board Chugga could have won, had he played smarter, was Western Land (e.g. using the Golden Mushroom sooner, possibly stealing a star, etc.).
