Interesting. I've only ever seen Bowser in the context of the SHA NA NA tv show as a character-- dancing or posing with his muscles flexed and his mouth wide open. I have never seen him as himself... as an average person. Very enlightening...

I've met bowzer a few times after his shows. He seemed so nice. I am also close friends with Lennie baker. I told bowzer that one time and he gave me a huge smile and said "thank you for taking care of lennie " 😊 and I have up until his passing. 💕😇

I wasn't expecting much from this clip but Jon Bauman played it straight and actually gave us history and information. That's appreciated. This program host was really good, also.

I was 4th row at Carnegie hall. My friends and myself took the train into the city we may have been 13 years old. We went to the ticket booth and bought 4th row, wow! Donnie brushes his greased hair and shoots his greasy comb at us. What a thrill! I started playing oldies in a band and continued throughput my life. Did CBSFM' s do woo shop as sha na na did. You never know how you may get your inspiration or mentors from.

John ( Bowser) works with T.J Lubinsky on these shows. I saw part of this on PBS. He also went before Congress to make it a crime for record companies to withhold royalties from the old performers that did the songs when their versions were used in movies or TV.. As an example, American Graffiti got the soundtrack songs cheaply but after 1994, it would have cost them a fortune for the use of the old songs. George Lucas talked about this recently.

I love Bowzer's deep voice. Not every man has a high voice like Steve Perry from Journey did. Without deep bass voices, we'd have no Johnny Cash, no Bauhaus (an English post-punk band, per Wikipedia).

Feels like an uncle that you see once every ten years at Christmas.....miss sha na na....I was a kid watching vhs recorded shows my dad would play on Saturday nights.....I thought he was a character and a half and Johnny was the original singer of all their tribute songs they played...... it was a trippy show one guy looked like greaser....one guy looked like sammmy Davis jr....a bald guy......a falsetto singer who makes direct eye contact with the camera as he sang beautifully.....and in between sketches and lots of shiny gold clothing....and their goal was keep doo wop 50s alive in the 70s.......trippy but somehow it worked in the 80s.....

This interviewer needs to work on her interviewing skills. This guy is a legend in the entertainment business (apparently well before her time) and has considerably more experience regarding media (i.e.- interviewing & entertainment) than she does. She should not be cutting him off as he finishes his sentences - that's bad form - and a common mistake of newbies and non-professionals.

Love that you got to talk about some of the original groups problems having to sit home while fake groups were taking advantage of their music & shows as their own . Really sucks cause the original ones had all the hard work to do then just to have it stolen . Any shows of Bowsers going to hit tv anytime soon or even any live shows in Va or NC . I'd love to see them either way .

Gotta give Bowser credit. He fights against bands that don't have any original members in it calling themselves the band's name. And that's knowing that he could make a lot more money if he called his group Sha Na Na instead of Bowser and the Sting Rays. But since he wasn't an original member of Sha Na Na he won't do that. Much respect.
