Witcher Family I love and missed you all!!! I hope you are as excited as me to get another Witcher game!! I still remember all the amazing moments we all shared in the Lets Plays on the channel. Still the best gaming series ever made to date!! And some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had! Adding just a few things from my thoughts and corrections. The trials were ment for Boys not men I know this and was meaning this but men came out. And secondly I'm not sure Geralt and Yen would have wanted her to go through the trials even though I said they would help her. Also it seems Ciri used the water to her advantage to fuel the casting of a spell. But she also was using signs. Her elder blood situation will play a huge roll I'm sure but makes me wonder how. See you all on the path!! -SALUTE

As a producer I must admit that this was next lvl of awesome. Like in the beginning shots of naked woman, totally vulnerable, scene when they put on her dress cut with Cirilla sharpening her sword. wow... innocence and pure metal from scene to scene. Lok how lonely that girl looks walking to her doom. As if she's no longer a human, just a sacrifice.... So much visual storytelling here... omg

@Xeno72412 күн бұрын
Edit2: Rewatching the trailer, I just caught something else. When Ciri approaches the canyon and sends the girl back to the village, she hears voices in her head once of them sounding like her saying "One of us has to be chosen" and another male voice saying "The ritual works..." Which would prove someone rediscovered and perfected the trial, but that Ciri had to do it to protect someone. It also could just be the villagers ritual, and about the girl Ciri is trying to save at the start of the trailer as someone pointed out to me, but who knows. This possibly changes a lot about my theories below. So I have some theories, from what I've found out so far. Its confirmed Ciri has gone through the trial of the grasses in an interview with a dev. In the trailer her Medallion isn't a wolf. Its a Cat or a Lynx, which could imply a lot of things. It also could just be a redesign of the wolf to look different? However, from what I can tell and how Ciri is acting, its at least 10 years after W3. Both the trial and the time passage would explain her changed voice from a lore perspective. The whispers of the beast she fights say something about not being able to change fate, which could mean a lot. Could be Ciri saw a grim future, or maybe she went back in time to save people? That would also explain how the knowledge of the full trial of the grasses was unearthed again since its knowledge was lost. As for her eyes, I'm just going to assume its either Elder Blood influence or the fact that the trial she went through wasn't from the wolf school which means she has different monster mutations than wolf school witchers. This also ties into her medallion, implying she might have gone on her own to take the trial without Yen or Geralts consent, or even against it by seeking out remnants of other schools - OR - going back in time. Her anger in the trailer and her cynicism could also imply a rift between her previous confidants, friends and family. Edit: The fact that she is using Signs could be her paying homage to Geralt and Vesemir, or maybe her usage of her Elder Blood has been disabled or locked away some how which would mean she has to rely on other combat forms. She is also wearing Wolf styled armor, could also be homage to Geralt and Vesemir. This could also be a revenge story, due to her anger and her diving into the trials and learning the witchers signs, which she may have been taught by remnants of other schools. Signs point to Geralt biting the dust, although I can't see them doing that after giving him his happy ending so Im leaning toward my other theories.

As a Witcher fan since 2008 I'm as excited about this one as I'm concerned about major lore retcons. Ciri here has cat eyes and drinks potions which means she has definitely gone through the trial of grasses being at least in her 20s. No adult has ever survived that regardless of his genetics. Also we see Ciri using witcher signs but not using her elder blood space-time travelling powers. Which leads me to think that we'll most likely have "Ciri went to some sorceress to get help in enduring the trial of grasses but mutations have greatly reduced her magic powers" setup. And that's pretty lame setup to me 😁
@BowskiiКүн бұрын
I'm a bit scared for the lore tweaking to be honest. After sleeping on it and thinking about it all I hope they do it good. I got a feeling they will explain it perfectly and make it feel natural. But I always try to remember the games aren't canon to the books. It's alot going on here though I'm excited like I said but definitely nervous. I kind of wish her story ended with Geralts and we get a brand new Witcher but sadly don't seem the case.

@Xeno72412 күн бұрын
She was confirmed by a dev to have gone through the trial of the grasses, and after rewatching the video you can hear voices in her head say "One of us has to be chosen" "The ritual works!" Which would imply she was forced to take the trial to protect someone else from it. Considering your comments about the beast being this "Bauk" that can prey on your fears, that makes even more sense that shes hearing traumatic memories from the forced trials.

@Xeno72412 күн бұрын
@@racernatorde5318 I considered that, but I don't think so. Mainly because of the male voice exclaiming "the ritual works!!". The context of those words don't match with the villagers actions. I have watched trailer so many times. So many impressions and nostalgia. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing and so authentic to witcher!! Back to the old lesser and greater evil in one trailer. I always knew Ciri will be the next protagonist :) I can't believe people are complaining about that. The whole trials situation is interesting and I cant wait to see where they go with this... this is a very early concept trailer and can be misleading. There are many ways it can be explained tho. The thing about trials, in the books it's never stated explicitly that no girls can ever survive under any circumstances, only that they fare even worse than boys. So they just gave up on on experimenting on them and kept adjusting the trials for boys. Also we only seen reports from maybe one experiment from one school, The Wolf, different schools could've have different experiments :) However Ciri is special, if anyone could survive it's due to elder blood. and like you said perhaps research has been done to improve the trials so they work for women, or her specifically. I am also sure her Elder Blood will play a huge role here.. there are many ways they can play this and I'm so interested to see what they will do. Knowing CDPR I'm sure they'll do a great job :) Honestly I am more interested to see if they will do anything to account for different endings. In my playthrough I made Ciri the Empress, so I wonder if they will account for that and explained how she ended up witcher anyway. But I wouldn't be surprised if they don't lol. In my experience with all three games they were notoriously bad with respecting previous choices, each next game totally ignored my choices from the previous one and just started with their own worldstate but I didn't mind that too much :) Witcher to me is not so much about my choices but about telling it's own story
@BowskiiКүн бұрын
I'm excited for it and I actually made another vid to discuss more of my thoughts on the matter but I'm still a bit scared and also excited. I'm not sure how I feel about her being a Witcher I like it but I also would have liked a clean slate more I think. Let us use and create a new Witcher but I feel like they made her the Protag for this game to bring in the new lore for females being Witchers. And in the newer games after this allow us to create our own Witchers either a male or female ect.
@mayaamisКүн бұрын
you could be right they might be aiming for sort of soft reboot of the franchise for the future... tho they did say next games will be a trilogy so it could also be a trilogy with Ciri as protagonist first? I don't know so much is open at this point... I do hope they make her more than just a "regular" Witcher tho... her being child of the Elder Blood and having her unique powers was the best thing about her tho :)

Btw, there was Geralt’s voice at the very end, it seems like the video you’ve watched was cut. For me(I’ve read the books and played games) it was obvious Ciri was supposed to be the next protagonist. More than that, in the books sometimes she seemed more important than Geralt. When I’ve heard the name of the book series for the first time, it was presented to me like «The Saga of the Witcher and the Witchess(?)”, I don’t know how to translate last word in English, but in Slavic language it’s possible to make a female version of the word “Witcher”. Anyway, I really hope to get a nice story where all our questions about her mutations will be answered, and I hope they’ll manage to save the original vibe! Ciri looks gorgeous, can’t wait ❤️🔥

The Ciri "Witcher" ending ONLY is logical bc Ciri had mastered space time pwrs she's WAY more powerful than Geralt & freaking defeated the White Frost 😳 that's the ONLY way you let ur daughter hunt monsters & even then its a pretty illogical ending for Geralt & Yen.

She could be upwards of 30+ at this point. Do you really think shes going to run every life decision she makes by Geralt and Yen back in Toussaint? Shes gotta be her own person at some point.

Holy shit, CDPR and their god damn trailers! I'm also a little weirded out by the voice change but it seems pretty damn good anyway, I wonder if polish voice will be the same. As for the rest, I hope CDPR will stick to the lore and didn't actually make her go through the trials, she drank cat potion there I guess and it might be seen as mild or maybe it's something completely different but the sign, they showed her draw from a water source so it's not signs, it's actual magic and that's gonna be exciting as hell! She looks fantastic too! Oh man, I'm so excited!

Folks, remember that Bowski only knows one ending of Witcher 3, so be wary with spoilers in your discussions!! I gotta be honest, I don't like where they are going with this. My first impression is pretty negative. Like many, I was expecting them to go back in time and make the new games take place in the earlier days of the Witchers, their prime era. And while I wasn't really too fixated on any option, it was also the one that I would have liked to have seen the most. If CDPR wants to keep telling their story with a Witcher protagonist, Ciri is not really a good choice for many reasons. About the trial of the grasses: The trial was specifically designed for boys. Bluntly speaking nobody would bother wasting so many girls/women on something that would kill so many of them, first during the trial and then later on during their (infertile) life. A society is more reliant of women for repopulation than men. So naturally the mages that created the trials didn't bother with the possibility of female witchers. I don't think there is single mention in all of the canon of any women ever trying it. Would Ciri surivive the trials? I think so. But would she be affected by them at all due to her elder blood? I don't think so - remember the water of Brokilon. Though I gotta admit that there is something poetic about her beeing breed as a carrier for the elder blood and then turning infertile. Back to the trailer, presumably having Ciri as a Witcher as the new protagonst causes a lot of lore issues. The games are somewhat to blame for making monsters overly present, when they shouldn't be, but alas, gamers needed something to slay and considering the wars and the places where they took place, it's not super far stretched to increase the number of monsters, especially ghouls and such. But anyway, by that point in time, Witchers are going extinct, their prime days where they were needed are long gone. There shouldn't be anyone left that could perform the trial on her and why would she want to anyway? Neither Geralt nor Yennefer would want her do so either. Going back to what I sad above, I would have liked to have seen them take an approach that was done well by some of the older Assasins Creed games: Having two protagonist, a Witcher and a sorceress (no, not a love story) during the prime days of the Witcher schools. Lots of monsters that need killing, the schools training dozens of Witcher with mages and sorceresses beeing involved. They could have vastly expanded the foundation of their lore and even included some characters that we know, like Hen Gedymdeith, Tissaia, maybe Francesca and some of the big names like Herbert Stammelford, Agnes von Glanville, etc.. Dunno when exactly they were alive, but some of them were alive at the same time. There is sooo much that could be told. Chaotic thoughts from my end. I can't help to think that they are just rehashing the stories while replacing Geralt with Ciri Edit: The more I think about it, the more do I dislike seeing Ciri as a fully fleshed Witcher. Neither Geralt, nor Yennefer, Triss, Eskel, Lambert, etc. would have wanted this for her - or would have tried their hardest to prevent it! They taught her how to fight, but they did not want her to have to endure what Witchers endure on the path. The comments under the official trailer are rough. I learned long ago that there are way too many incels in the Witcher community, but I didn't think it would be this bad. You'd think that people that are a part of this franchise would have learned anything about what it is trying to teach us, but alas, they did not :(

I'm excited no doubt because of how much this series as a whole means to me. But as a true fan of the books I'm a bit concerned as well. I hope they try to stay as true as they can but in the end they are gonna tweak some of the lore and will have to since they wanna use her as the main character. I was kinda hoping for another Witcher instead of Ciri but I'm still excited to see her as our main character. I guess all we can do is wait to see how it unfolds I'm sure CDPR will do this next game and the name Witcher great justice.

@racernatorde5318 I'm afraid you've fallen into two all too common traps: a) you've had too big and fixed expectations about what this game would be about, already going into potential details of story threads and characters. Now that it turned out to not be that at all, it's easy to feel betrayed or simply dislike the unknown and foreign over the ideas you've held close to your heart for so long already. But that's no fault of the game or it's devs, that's just your expectations. b) having seen the trailer, you've deduced some details (looks like she underwent the trials / became a fully (or at least more) fledged witcher) and then made assumptions based on that, which you seem to be taking as fact (must have undergone the trial of grasses) and as basis for your resentment (makes no sense because noone knows anymore how to do the trial, especially on a girl, much less a grown woman). But if you remove your assumptions and return to only the actual known facts, all the resentment is (for now) baseless. As others have commented, there are any number of ways how Ciri could have underwent (part of) the trials to get full benefits of being a witcher (remnants of a school in a different "remote" (from the known areas) part of the world; different, but similar dimension; maybe even timetravel back to when trials were still going on) and as we could see in the middle of Witcher 3, parts of the trials can be mixed with other magic to get different results (e.g. turning Avallach back into himself), so maybe she just used magic to transform herself (or have herself be transformed) like this. She has proper magic and her elder blood at her disposal, who is to say what she could or couldn't do with that? It's been some time since I read the books, but I don't think there are many hard facts known about her bloodline and her potential. And remember, CDPR did a pretty great job at EXTENDING the known canon, without retconning or contradicting much (anything?) that's in the books (as opposed to a certain Netflix "adaptation"). So until we actually know (a lot) more about the story, I'm cautiously optimistic that they were able to find similarly good ways to extend rather than retcon the (book- and game-)canon for their new story. And as for continuing with Ciri rather than going back in time: To me at least it feels like a very natural transition (first only Geralt, then Geralt + a bit of Ciri in W3, now mostly/only Ciri in W4). The story has always been about Geralt and his "family". To me it would feel a lot less disconnected and "just wrong" if we were to suddenly jump to a completely new mainchar, in a completely different time (just remember the outcry and even ongoing hate against MassEffect Andromeda).
@racernatorde5318Күн бұрын
@@lukasr5867 I can't really say that I have had major expecations for the story. I did pay attention to what others were hoping for and I'd say there were 4-5 main themes: Getting to play as Ciri, playing as Eskel or Lambert (prequel or sequel), a prequel for Vesemir or going back to the prime era of Witchers. The last one was often associated with beeing able to create a custom character, an idea that I never liked for this franchise. But now it gets a bit more complex and it essentially boils down to them letting Ciri go through the trial of the grasses (which the devs actually confirmed!). Getting to play as Ciri and continuing her story on the path is one thing, but letting her go throught the trial is a whole different thing. It requires massive adjustments and stretches to the lore. And while a little bit of stretching isn't bad, this will be rough: 1. Nobody beeing left that knows how to do the trials. 2. Her beeing a women and an adult, when the trial was not intended nor developed for either. 2.1. Her family/friends would not want her to undergo the trials and then live with the consequences (Geralt would never want her to face the hate he faced) 2.2. What's the rate of survival for the trials? 10%? And that is for boys 3. Witchers and Monsters beeing in decline (yes, this is a bit tricky, since the game vastly increased their number for gameplay purposes and war reasons). The time of Witchers is over and even Geralt was mostly just a relict of the past. Whilst they absolutely have done a good job at extending the existing lore, this will require several major adjustments at the same time and that makes it a big stretch. Given all of these things, I don't think it unreasonable to think that them going back to the prime era of Witchers is strange - they wouldn't have to make these major changes and could embed the story in the existing time frame. I would also say that Ciri's story is kinda finished, just like Geralt. She wanted to be free of her pursuers and be able to live her own thing. She is also pretty damn overpowered at that point in time, which has to scale really strangely into the future games. How are the supposed to find interesting opponents for her without upping the stakes? As for CDRP retconning or contradicting the lore, they have absolutely done both to various degrees. Heck, they brought Geralt back from Avalon just to be able to make a game with him. But look at Fake Ciri for example. She was completely removed from the games, presumably because they didn't know how to handle her and she was pretty damn important for Emhyr's character. There are many other examples, but I didn't say this because I think that CDPR butchered the lore or anything. I see the way that they handled the books similar to how Peter Jackson made his Lord of the Rings trilogy - mostly respecting the source material, but also adding their own tunes, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse

@@racernatorde5318 Dude, there isn't really much value in a discussion if you're just going to repeat entire long paragraphs worth of your previous statements without acknowledging my comments on those and why you think they'd not be relevant or otherwise don't conflict with your position. "I can't really say that I have had major expecations for the story" - Funny. Your original comment literally states "Like many, I was expecting them ..." and you go on and on about details of what you were expecting or hoping and how you now don't like the ideas that CDPR have come up with. "letting Ciri go through the trial of the grasses (which the devs actually confirmed!)" - what's your source for this and what's the exact wording they used? Because as I explaind in more detail in my previous comment already, there are a lot of different degrees in how this could be done and a lot of ways how it could be built into the story without breaking anything. You're just assuming that it has to be one specific path which indeed would break a lot of established lore. "Geralt would never want her to face the hate he faced" - He might not like her going through the trials themselves, but being a witcher? That's literally one of the "good" endings of the main game (and IIRC the one we saw on this channel). And she's already a "mutant" of sorts just by having the elder blood and has seen her fair share of hate and worse for that. This point just doesn't make sense. "Witchers and Monsters beeing in decline" - even assuming the game will be mostly in the same dimension/timeline as the others, where's the problem with this? We've seen ONE (1!) single monster in this trailer (not counting humans), which in the dev-video on Steam was explained to be in a far-north remote corner of the world. Exactly the kind of place were you'd expect one of the last big monsters might hide. Who says that we'll be getting ghouls and nekkers at every street corner like in W3? "I would also say that Ciri's story is kinda finished" - she's survived those big challenges, yes, but she's twenty in W3. How's that a finished story? That's the introductory chapters done. "She is also pretty damn overpowered at that point in time" - true, one more reason why common low monsters like ghouls might not even appear as a "training opponent" anymore. That doesn't mean that there wouldn't still be hurdles to overcome. She still needed a lot of teaching and support from Geralt and Avallach in W3 to even start to control her powers. Instead of seeing a problem and dismissing the whole idea as "won't work anyway", try to stay open to the possibility that there might be ways to solve the problem you haven't seen or thought of yet. "Heck, they brought Geralt back from Avalon just to be able to make a game with him" - how is that a retcon or breaking lore? Yes, the books ended with that, but why shouldn't the story continue from there? "But look at Fake Ciri for example" - what? which fake Ciri, please? "I see the way that they handled the books similar to how Peter Jackson made his Lord of the Rings trilogy" - Where then does all that negativity come from? It's not like Amazon trying to hop on the success of the Jackson Films, it's the actual studio continuing their own storyline. There should be a lot of hope there for them to be able to do it properly.

@@lukasr5867 Hmpf, take that attitude of yours and bring it way down. There is no need to be so rude for no reason. I have responded to most of your points above, but I can happily do it again. Don't project that mindless rage other people have had about that trailer on to me. I have not critized stuff for no reason, nor are these finalized thoughts about the whole topic. It's a first trailer, the first bit of knowledge about their new game(s), so naturally I, and others, will want to share their first impressions and thoughts. I'll match the number of paragraphs to yours, to keep this at least somewhat readable: Just because I didn't have major expectations, does not mean that I wasn't paying attention to what others wanted to see the most (mentioned cases). I had very loose preferences, but I am open to what ever story they want to tell. I'll get back to this in a bit. Apparently CDPR confirmed Ciri having gone through the trials at whatever event they showcased the trailer at. I don't know which event it was, but even if this is second hand knowledge, it is true. Like you sad it yourself, we do not know how this happened, the background for this is pure speculation. However: There are clear boundaries set by the lore that they kinda have to respect, or else other stuff won't make sense anymore. One of the endings is indeed her becoming a Witcher, BUT, and that is very important "but" and the core of my, and many other concern, she only became a Witcher by profession, NOT by becoming a mutant. Yes, she does have the elder blood, but hardly anybody knows about it in the first place and even fewer know that she does carry it. Whereas people are usually able to recognize Geralt as a Witcher, due to his eyes for example. Sure, if she is still performing the job of a Witcher, random folks probably wouldn't be able to tell if she is a mutant or not and threat her accordingly, but if she doesn't present herself as one, nobody would bat an eye at her. When people were considering the possibility of the new game featuring her as the protagnist, they generally weren't expecting her to have gone through the trials. The problem is simply: There shouldn't be a need for fully fledged Witchers anymore, ergo no need for her to undergo the trials. There are indeed some monster left, especially in the less populated areas of the world, but nobody cares about those monsters as long they do not prose a threat. And if there is no threat, there is no coin to be earned for a Witcher. Having Ciri deal with stuff/adventures/dangers - the occasional monster and monster contract - in a post-Witcher 3 game is one thing, but as a fully fledged Witcher? I dunno.... One could spend much time talking about when a characters story is finished. I would say that, just because a charcter is still alive, doesn't mean that their story, or at least the part of the story that is interesting enought to be told in greater lengths, can't come to an end. Nowadays there are too many stories, movies, etc. that just keep going on until they lost all their meaning. Not that I ever watched or cared about the Walking Dead, but aren't they will walking on with their show? This is not to say that I don't think one couldn't continue Ciri's story, but as I sad above, I do not think the path they have chosen was a wise decision. Her power level will not make it easy to make the game(s) appealing. People don't have the patience for games that only feature a (monster) fight every 10-20h. It's a legit concern, which ties back to me thinkink that other characters might have simply worked better (E.g. Eskel beeing the same power level as Geralt). "Somehow Palpatine returned" They totally broke the lore with bringing Geralt back from the "dead". It's not automatically something bad, but it must be taken with caution and good reason. Which Fake Ciri? Are you kidding me? This is the one thing you sad that really dissappointed me. Haven't you read the books?? She's quite an important character. I am afraid the times were I can blindly trust someone to deliver a quality product are long gone. The likes of Amazon played their part in this, but I do no longer have full trust in CDPR either after their Cyberpunk release (not that I think that stuff like the writing was an issue, the game is in a pretty damn good shape for quite a while now). It's less about CDPR really and more about the general state of the gaming and movie industry these days. Pretty much nobody from their Witcher 3 era is working on their new games, so think some amount of caution is not inappropriate
