shear pin in the US its the weak link so if prop hits something the pin shears instead of doing major damage.the square little piece is a key that goes in a keyway and the others are called gears

Paul, A truly excellent video of the bow thruster rebuild, very timely for me. I appreciate all of the setup and care that you took with the job. When it doubt grease it! (grin) it is also clear that you understand the strengths of materials, using only a reasonable amount of force etc. when working with the fibreglass or the nylon fasteners. I hope that you and your wife have many more enjoyable years on your Amel. Best, James and Joann SV Sueño.

Hello Paul, very good video. I had the same problem on Eleuthera... which I attribute more to operating technique than to a mechanical problem. Typically, we only use the BT for less than 2 minutes total each year. For the last 3 years, I wait a minimum of 1 full second between activations. NEVER break my own rule. Every 2 years, I perform a maintenance. Enjoy your sailing..

@@jean-lucmertz2376 The shaft and cogwheel is what costs there was also a lid/cover for the other end of the shaft, ball bearings and lip seals, yes they are less than 10 euro each. Spare parts are not cheap when buying from Amel, but they do carry a lot of stuff for the old models, last year our 20 years old top swivel for the head sail broke down, 6 days later I had one delivered to Bermuda. for the bow thruster i ordered the kit on a Monday, it arrived Lagos, Portugal Wednesday two days later.
